Pianist and composer Friedrich Gulda was born #OnThisDay in 1930.
Gulda’s heart was home to many musical souls – hardly any other pianist could boast such versatility: his repertoire ranged from Bach, Mozart and Beethoven to Chopin, Schubert, Debussy, Ravel, Strauss and Prokofiev. He won the Concours de Genève at the age of 16 and made his acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut at 20. His playing was always analytically transparent yet also eloquent, captivating and expressive.

On his new album with the @bambergsymphony , @jakubhrusa_conductor dedicates himself to the six symphonies of Bohuslav Martinů. These works were composed during the Czech composer’s exile in America and combine poetic lyricism, epic tragedy and Bohemian energy.

EN | Today, I’d like to present the Écossaise: originally a bagpipe accompanied Scottish folk dance in three-quarter time. Around 1700, this dance became fashionable in France and was converted into a rapid two-quarter time dance called „Anglaise“.
