Sarah Pagé x NO HAY BANDA - ‘Voda’ | May 17 @ @fimav_victo !
We are thrilled to join forces with @sarahpageharp to premiere a live version of her 2023 studio album Voda, featuring Pagé on harp & electronics alongside Jonah Fortune on bass, @ben_macrophone in vielle-à-roue, @danielanez on ondes Martenot, @noambierstone on percussion, and Nika Stein on vocals.
Voda was created as a series of musical tableaux which were interpretations of Nika Stein’s solo dance work Voda-Eau-Water - an exploration of the depths of the subconscious in which water serves as a metaphor for exploring themes of birth, death, and re-birth. This performance uses an expansive and unique textural palette to flow between composition and guided improvisation, re-interpreting several movements of the original piece as well as entirely new ones.

Un concert qui présente la voix comme un lieu de transformation, explorant l’espace où le chant et le son se dissocient, et où texte, électronique et formes musicales sculpturales se rencontrent pour créer des expériences d’écoute immersives et imprévisibles.
Tout au long du concert, l’électronique assume des rôles variés, allant du traitement en temps réel réactif, au son acousmatique. Ces approches façonnent chaque œuvre différemment, tantôt en prolongeant le geste vocal, tantôt en le replaçant dans un environnement sonore immersif. L’ensemble du programme explore un large spectre de pratiques électroniques, où la technologie peut agir comme accompagnatrice, miroir, environnement ou voix musicale autonome.

Ana María Romano est compositrice, artiste sonore interdisciplinaire, enseignante et chercheuse colombienne. Ses intérêts créatifs se situent à l’intersection du genre, des sexualités, du son et de la technologie, encadrés par l’écoute, les paysages sonores, l’espace, le corps, le bruit, l’expérimentation, le cyberespace et les dimensions politiques de la création.
NO HAY BANDA est heureux de se joindre à Romano pour la création de ´nadie nos quita lo bailado´(personne ne peut enlever ce que nous avons dansé), une œuvre collaborative où se rencontrent des corps, des souvenirs, des rêves et des sensibilités, qui s’entrelacent à travers l’écoute et la curiosité. Like artists (and audience), every space bears its own imprint, trajectory, and will—shaped by the interests it brings together, its acoustic particularities, and the totality of sounds it hosts, invokes, fosters, and accumulates. Each place is, in itself, a rich and profound sonic universe—a universe carved in air. Tallado en el aire begins from an engagement with the sonic universe in which it takes place, and with the relationship its performers establish with it, considering both certain sounds that occur in the room during the performance itself, and the sounds present in the “phonographies”. For the creation of the electroacoustic track of Tallado en el aire, Wapiti has dug into the sonic archives of the @suoniperilpopolo festival (thanks to @popolopress for giving us access), and includes excerpts of concerts from the 2009, 2017 and 2018 editions, all happening at Sala Rossa.

Delighted to share the studio recording of “Orison” - a work for solo ondes Martenot that I composed for @danielanez last year. Link in bio for full recording! “Orison” is a work for ondes Martenot and electronics commissioned and performed by Daniel Áñez. It was irresistible for me to associate this early electronic instrument with science fiction and the idea of extra-terrestrial life, and so the work takes on a quasi-narrative, atmospheric character addressing these themes and their relationship with spirituality, the idea of the metaphysical ‘other,’ and personal feelings of alienation and otherness. Besides being an incredible ondist, Daniel has a virtuosic fluency with synthesizers and effects pedals, and so the work incorporates a significant signal processing component, which Daniel implemented. The work also features a vocoder during a brief sung passage. The work premiered in 2024 at the @electriceclectics festival in Meaford, ON, and this studio recording was realized by Daniel Áñez and James O’Callaghan in 2025.
