our new track âdojaâ is finally yours, available on soundcloud as a free download - hereâs the back story behind the track.
story time: a few weeks ago i randomly listen to a dubstep edit of misery business from
@paramore and dm redstain like âyo, you should flip this into something modern and bass-heavyâ that turns into a casual ig coonv about maybe doing a session one day - i donât produce, so i donât really believe itâll happen.
a few weeks later, i forget my water bottle at his place (right before his
@lumia.wav present #3 gig) the perfect excuse to finally link up and make it official.
we sit down, open ableton, dig for sounds, mess around with racks, drum kits and half-baked ideas, and pretty quickly land on a pitched and sped-up
@dojacat â get into it (yuh) sample. instant yes! from there it becomes a full-on experiment: resampling, warping, stretching things until they almost break, building drums from scratch, trying different grooves, pushing bass design, and letting ableton sessions get a little messy on purpose until the right accidents happen.
i bring in my obsession with bulgarian choirs and kaval sbire song, we layer textures, test contrasts, and at that point the idea is locked. we decide to go for a soundcloud remix, but push it far enough so it feels almost like a brand new track - more a wink than a remix.
first session: the idea is there. second session: structure done. then redstain disappears for a few nights, comes back with surgical drums, perfect subs, wild sound design and pure magic, refining everything into something heavy but clean, playful but precise. youâre not ready for the second drop, for sure.
we meet one last time to shoot the content (not easy on my side, letâs be real) and quickly agree on the name doja - a nod to the queen of cats and because it just sounds right. and thatâs how the weapon was born.
ukg / uk bass energy with a 140 spirit, made for djs to rinse in the club. link in bio - free download on soundcloud and hypeddit. play it loud, share it, tell us what you think!
moral of the story: drink water, own a water bottle
@bonjourbonsoir.conspiracy and stay hydrated.
