Address: 〒107-0062 東京都港区南青山3-2-9 真壁マンション1F Distance 反射する眼差し is a collaborative project I created with fashion designer Hana Yagi, developed during my 2023 stay in Japan. Working from her garments and her ongoing theme of “repair,” we shaped a story about the ways we try to connect, and the gaps and closeness that appear in the process. The show presents photographs alongside Hana’s costume works and Marie Muravski’s illustrations, together forming an atmospheric, layered, and intimate story of distance. Sunnyside (2019) A fictional story about two sisters, Evelyn and Violet Appleby, trying to reconnect after the sudden loss of their parents. Set in the late 1980s, it follows the ups and downs of their relationship as they navigate grief, change, and the shifting dynamics between them. This project was my first attempt at creating a full narrative in book form. Told through images without any text, the book invites the viewer to piece the story together themselves and interpret it through their own experiences. Alongside the photographs, there are also some additional illustrations by @tallulahfontaine that expand on the narrative, showing more of the dynamics between the sisters. The project is set over a summer period, but in reality, all the imagery was shot in one day. Thank you to @foreveryeon for styling, helping shape the story, and working through all the challenges of self-publishing a book together, to @sashafro and @inouicg for starring in the project and for all the ideas and enthusiasm you brought to the story. ‘Decaying with the speed of spring’ is inspired by my experience with Depersonalisation-Derealisation, a dissociative condition that for years left me feeling detached from my body and environment. It felt like being half-awake in a dream, disconnected and caught in the surreal experience of observing various versions of myself, unsure how to relate to the world around me. Through my photographs and Pei’s illustrations, we explored the idea of facing the different parts of ourselves, the layered and sometimes conflicting versions and how we grow by letting go of the ones that no longer fit or hold us back.
