The architecture catalogue has important contributions on Smithâs architecture by authors John Keenen, Christopher Ketcham, and Cynthia Davidson offering surprising insight for many readers into the breadth of Smithâs work and interests in architecture and design.
While the catalogue presents the full extent of identified production in architecture by Smith, âAgainst Reasonâ for architecture has newly commissioned essays and visual arts projects by Mario Gooden, Christopher Ketcham, Marta Kuzma, Peter LâOfficial, R.H. Quaytman, and Jas Rault. Their contributions from a wide range of disciplines and perspectivesâfrom American studies, architecture, and art history to theory, design, and visual artâplace Smithâs architectural design work in dialogue with contemporary culture.
We released the sculpture volumes in fall 2024. I edited a comparable âAgainst Reasonâ for Smithâs sculpture. That book explores the ongoing vitality of the artist Smith with commissioned essays and projects by Judith Barry, Tom Burr, Saim Demircan, Mario Gooden, Jenni Sorkin, and Yann ChateignĂ© Tytelman who examine Smith both in the art historical canon and through his continued inïŹuence.
Itâs been a long yet rewarding journey working with many brilliant minds and thoughtful contributors to the books. We will celebrate the publications of all four booksârecognizing the authors and contributors with whom Iâve had the honor to workâplus the amazing team at MIT Press and designers James Goggin and Shan James of Practice who made it possible. Onward.
