happy (late) international stammer awareness day
Last Thursday was #isad, I was v busy but wanted to still share something...
Some of you might not know that I have a stammer, hiya! Some of you definitely do. It’s something that I’ve always tried to hide and it’s taken a long time for me to accept it. I wanna start talking about it more, so this seems like a good start.
If you come across someone with a stutter / stammer and they block carry on giving us eye contact and smile, don’t finish our sentences for us (it honestly feels gawj when we get the word/words out) and just give us time!
You might not realise someone has a stammer because they “do well” to hide it in certain situations. Every situation is different and our speech reacts differently to it. There have been points where I haven’t stammered for months and in more recent years it’s been a lot more visible.
It’s caused me a lot of social anxiety over the years and talking about it is helping me tackle that. I want to be able to open the conversation about it more, I hope to share more on it on here!
Also shout out to the stunnin’ people who support me constantly with it 🧡
