THIS YEAR I PAID MYSELF A SALARY OF $60K… not exactly what people imagine when they hear “7-figure business.”
A couple months ago, my old ass car was broken into and all my stuff was stolen. This is the same car I bought new in 2013. My little Hyundai Accent hatchback. They didn’t even steal the car itself; that’s how old it is. It still has dents, scratches, and a missing piece of trim from when they ripped it off. If you zoom in, you can see it in the photos.
And yes… it’s still the only car I own.
The same one I used to pull up to celebrity clients homes in LA.
So let me repeat it:
👉🏽This year I paid myself a salary of $60K USD.
For some people that’s a decent amount. For others, it’s nothing.
My accountant appreciates this from a tax perspective because a lower salary reduces the tax burden and lets us reinvest more back into the company; which matters when you’re bootstrapped and scaling. And just to be clear: when I say “7-figure business,” I mean cumulative revenue since 2020. Not annual. (Still working toward that...)
This year was our biggest year ever. We more than doubled from last year (though to be fair, last year wasn’t our strongest). But doubling came with a cost. I pushed hard. Too hard.
👉🏽I’m burnt out. My plan is recharge this month, reset, and come back with fresher eyes and more clarity and vigor.
Most people think that once you hit certain numbers, life automatically upgrades. New car, nicer apartment, shiny everything. But that’s not how it works when you’re building something from scratch, reinvesting constantly, and growing a team while striving to keep quality high.
There were months I paid my team and took nothing. There were nights after courses where I sat in that same car, exhausted, wondering if any of this would work. I’ve doubted myself plenty. I still do.
I’m not sure if I’m building this the “right” way. Maybe I should be paying myself more. Maybe the business “should” be further along. I’m learning as I go.
One day, I’ll buy a new car. Probably a few.
But this one? I’m keeping it until the very end.

People assume that once you build a recognized certification, things start to feel easier.
In some ways, they do... but in a lot of ways, they actually get heavier.
More students means more responsibility. More instructors means more coordination. More revenue means more complex finances, taxes, and legal layers you can’t ignore.
There are definitely moments where I feel like I want to crawl into a hole and give up (still happens). But then I look at my team, my instructors, and our members and it grounds me again🫶🏽. Sometimes focusing on them is enough to bring the energy back and keep going. 🙏🏽
