HYPOGEA premieres in less than 24 hours!!! 🖤
We’re finally here, after 2.5 years of planning, developing, researching, creating!!!
Our most important period began in September during a residency at Holstebro Teater, hosted by
@holstebrodansekompagni . At the same time,
@nannastarck was deeply immersed at
@fabrikkenffkd , crafting the large fibreglass relief sculpture that forms the visual backbone of the piece.
From there, we continued into the studio at
@dansehallerne with the incredible dancers
@antoinettehelbing ,
@anelopanelop , and Britu Tränkler, developing the choreographic language; with and without clay. In this phase, costume designer
@laerkebarfod joined us, bringing her costume concept to life in a remarkably short time, tailoring each piece intricately to the performers.
We were also fortunate to be visited by
@kirkegaardjacob , who shared material from Opus Mors — recordings from a morgue, an autopsy, a cremation, and decomposition of the human body —with us, as well as professor Mikkel Krause Frantzen, who spent time with us discussing his book Slutspil/Endgame, ecological grief, and how grief might hold utopian potential.
Later in the process, our long-term collaborator
@moltamole joined to develop the sound and noise world of HYPOGEA, working in close dialogue with singer and vocal performer
@clairezervas on fragmented lamentations. In parallel, light designer
@fogsoup shaped the lighting environment in collaboration with
@nanna.h.jensen .
Throughout the entire creation, performance researcher
@jonaschnor has been a crucial dialogue partner, sharing their research on endings, grief, and death, challenging and sharpening
@psynama 's dramaturgical work.
And lastly, our warmest gratitude to Dansehallerne’s producer
@pedsof , whose support, care, and steady presence have held this production from start to finish.
HYPOGEA opens tomorrow. We can’t wait to share it with you. 🖤
