I think this was my first wave going left on this board… I remember because I wanted to surf in a bikini 👙 but the sea lice were next level so I was forced to wear a top the next few waves…. This is me trying to get my feet in the right spot and remember how to go left again 🤪 Feeling a bit rusty straight off the plane from surfing in wetsuits. I tend to be so hyper critical of my surfing that I end up over analyzing and nit picking and honestly not being that nice to myself 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ so here’s to changing that cuz turn three felt good 🥂 I love this place and the stoke I get surfing here. I feel like myself on this special island 💛care free of the bs that life sometimes throws at you. Continuing with the birthday month posts (thanks friends for all the wishes but it’s not my bday yet 🤪 I guess I should’ve clarified that). Just got back from the UK with the @patagoniaeurope crew, getting together press and dealers and getting to finally show off our new line of wetsuits that launch this fall. I’m so proud of these, I can say wholeheartedly that they are a game changer. For those that don’t know, I’d highly encourage you watching @thebigseaorg which gives a little insight on how toxic neoprene actually is. Might encourage you to switch to #yulex and our new @patagonia suits are absolutely top notch. Upgrades in fit, stretch, u-zip (zero flushing), hood, sizing, and womens sizing and thicknesses!!!! This trip, I spent half of the trip with no cell reception or internet, which made things challenging to stay connected yet also very nice to be present… it was extra special to get to see friends I haven’t seen in ten years and meet new forever friends 🫶 It was hard to get back to the house at night and be watching all of the flooding happening in the islands. Seeing posts from friends of all the damage had me feeling helpless and also guilty that I was on the other side of the world posting clips of me smiling with friends. It reminded me a lot of the Maui fires, how on the side of incredible tragedy there is also a part of beauty watching the communities come together to help one another. There are a lot of ways you can help from afar. I’ll continue to repost direct friends and foundations that are vetted, on my stories and in my bio, if you feel inclined to help. 🙏

Since it’s my birthday month and I’ve been slacking on social media #livinginthemoment 🤪 I’ve decided to play catchup with some fun throwbacks. Deal closers. Badass BigWave Women @kealakennelly @paigealms @andreamollermaui and I didn’t start the fight for equal pay in surfing. And we didn’t end it. But together in 2018 we closed one of the biggest milestones yet: equal pay in professional surfing — the first sports league in the world to require equal prize money. We did it by getting the State of California to back us and in doing so put WSL in a corner they couldn’t ignore. (Cover story @nytmag Feb 2019) Now there are more women and girls in the water than ever before. And the guys are all cheering us on! Proof that when we paddle together, we move the whole ocean.
