1.) In most cases, photographers retain the copyright to their work. The company or firm who paid for the photo shoot does not necessarily own the images produced.
2.) Design firms, brands, and vendors should think ahead about how they want to use the photos they plan to commission or license, considering each use as a separate item (website, social media, advertising, etc)
3.) Sharing isn’t always cool! All requests to use a photo, even to re-post one, should be directed to the photographer or their licensing agent before the usage occurs.
4.) Unauthorized commercial use of photographs is copyright infringement, and the fees associated can be costly. At OTTO we take protection of our represented imagery very seriously. If you receive a notice of copyright infringement from OTTO, please follow the instructions in the letter and respond as soon as you are able to.
