I spent a morning with Ted 22 years ago photographing him for Architectural Digest in his house near Tallahassee FL. I arrived at the appointed 5:30a call time, he had just returned from hunting. He came down the circular stairs of the antebellum house, the first words he said to me were “you’re late” (I wasn’t but I knew that wasn’t his point). Then he looked me dead in the eye and said “I know you”. I assured him that that couldn’t be as I would have remembered had we ever met. He insisted on this twice more before asking what I wanted. I said I’d like to shoot portraits of him in 3 locations, he responded “Three?! How many rolls are we talking about here?”. Three rolls each sir. “How many shots per roll?” Ten sir. “So 3 set-ups, 3 rolls, 10 shots per roll, that’s 90 shots. I’m going to count them”. And silently he did, after the 90th click he said, “we’re done”.
One of the best mornings in my career. Fun guy, great citizen, force of nature. R.I.P. Ted, there will never be another anything like you. #tedturner @tedturner_2
Walked and photographed the floor of Jackson Pollock’s studio today, a room and property I am drawn to time and time again. It seems apparent that I’m going through an appropriations period!

I went on a trip down memory lane today through the animal diorama exhibits at The Museum of Natural History. I loved them as a child and loved them even more today for transporting me back to that feeling of wonderment.
