"May the flowers remind us why the rain was so necessary”… and may building a swimming pool and pool house in Portland, in the rain, remind us that summer is around the corner.

Welcome inside the #ForestHouse, whose elegant entryway staircase – expertly crafted by @mwdesignworkshop and bathed in light from the two-story @themarvinbrand windows – quietly commands the room.

Portland is in full Spring Mode, and few gardens exemplify it like the one at our West Hills residence. Architecture by @OlsonKundig ; planting design by the legendary @danieljhinkley , a close friend of the homeowner and creator of a signature collection at @monroviaplants .
Our Forest House project began with a mock-up in a clearing in the woods. Here’s a look back.

Our #Foresthouse project began with a barn.
The Forest Barn, designed by @yiannidoulis and captured here perfectly by @aaronleitz , was the first building we constructed before tackling the @jhinteriordesign residence project. The barn siding, by @thermoryusa , is chestnut-brown when installed, but will slowly weather to a silvery gray, eventually making the barn seem like it’s always been there.
The continuous ridge-mounted skylight by @veluxusa , a mid-construction inspiration by the homeowner, really makes the project sing.
Otis is currently working with a 12”x12”x18” block of Fir to determine what it wants us to “make of it” as our entry in this year’s Block Party charity auction, sponsored by @designwithinreach and @madepdx .
What we know so far is it wants to forge a connection with our last year’s entry (its long lost sister) and it’s a little goth.
Come see us and our esteemed cohort of block designers and makers on March 19th at DWR in the Pearl, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Fun party, great snacks and drinks, and all proceeds benefit Children’s Healing Art Project.
We’re pleased to finally begin sharing images of the completed Forest House Project with our Instagram friends. We spent three years bringing the client and design team’s (@jhinteriordesign and @yiannidoulis ) vision to life, and we love the result. You can read more about it in the recently published @architecturaldigest article linked in our bio.

More to come!
This spiral staircase wasn't just built; it was engineered to fit a specific footprint with zero margin of error.
It was a privilege to bring the combined vision of architect @yiannidoulis and @jhinteriordesign to life. Seeing it settle into its forever home with the crew from @otisconstruction is what it's all about. There's a reason this project made it into the pages of @archdigest - it's all in the intention.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in our Portland showroom last week for the @luxemagazine connect breakfast! We loved catching up with familiar faces, sharing a showroom tour, and having conversations about the design industry with people who truly understand it.
And a special shoutout to @elephantsdeli for kicking off our morning with such a delicious spread!
If we were the Sharper Image Catalog, this would be The Console Sink.
In Mordor, it’s The One Lav to Rule Them All.
