“WESTTTT!” Taliesin West of Frank Lloyd Wright (1937) is his renown winter home cuddled amongst theMcDowell Mountains in Arizona. Akin to his original Taliesin home in Wisconsin, Wright made sure to blend his comfortable heritage along with some of the beautiful materials the Sonoran Dessert had to offer. Antecedent to his organic textile blocks, the approach taken for the load-bearing walls here is the natural stones peeking through sediment. Besides the many outstanding exterior features like the stark outdoor corridor, you’ll run into the original drafting room, the living spaces accompanied by custom seating of course the reasonably dramatic theater. All in all a great experience to be able to walk through & interact with, even the water feature & untouched garden✨
The Garduño–Heiser House is a striking mid-century modern residence from the early 1960s, perched in the hills of the Silver Lake in Los Angeles, California.
Designed by Raúl Garduño and Peter Heiser while they were students at University of Southern California, the home features a steel-frame structure dramatically cantilevered over a steep hillside, giving it the appearance of a suspended “spaceship” or “treehouse.” Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open onto an expansive outdoor deck, complemented by a distinctive bright yellow railing.

James Hueter was a central figure in a group of artists local to Claremont California. This residence was designed by Hueter, a strict modernist, in collaboration with Everett Tozier. The current owners, Jay and Lori Dunton, became the second owners of the home in 2021. Their philosophy of deep preservation has helped restore key spaces to their former glory. In particular, the studio where Hueter worked remains in pristine condition. Hueter worked in this studio daily for over 50 years.

She’s changed so much since then and especially since we bought her in 2019. She’s had a few owners before us so we’ve tried our best to bring back some of the mcm vibes as best we could. We haven’t been several mcm enthusiasts’ cup of tea because we’ve didn’t keep her a museum 🙃 but we truly did pour so much love into bringing her up to code and highlighting her best features. She was built in 1957 by a single architect who built the block and a block in a neighboring town.
It holds many memories for us personally; our wedding, our babies, where we laid our dog to rest, my little sister’s engagement & many more gatherings with our loved ones.
Most of the cool pieces in the home are thrifted and some I’ve won in giveaways! My favorite thrift is an original mahogany teak tansu step chest. Some of these are valued at 11k and I spent $300 👏🏻
This house is the gateway house to our obsession with mcm.
