𝐃𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐃𝐈𝐕𝐄 ~ a new music zine by 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣! launching at @tokyoartbookfair this weekend + next! A note from our editor, Anu: After years of falling down musical rabbit holes through my Soup to Nuts show on @nts_radio — late-night research, endless tabs and deep connections between scenes and eras — I wanted a way to archive these journeys beyond the internet. So I made a zine📘✨ 𝐃𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐃𝐈𝐕𝐄 is a listen-along zine filled with notes, stories and context to accompany the music. Each issue comes with stickers and a collectable card, making it a little artefact of the worlds I explore on air. Issue #1 honours the legacy of the late Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952–2023) — the composer, musician, producer, actor and environmental activist often described as a true renaissance man. His ever-evolving work and boundless influence opened countless musical doors for me and continues to inspire everything I do. 📣 🇳🇬 🇯🇵 🇬🇧 📣 Sometime in early 1980 @dennisbovell got a call from Japan, on the other line it was Ryuichi Sakamoto saying that he wanted to come to London to record with Dennis, Dennis, already a fan of Yellow Magic Orchestra, initially thought it was an April Fools joke but when a whole load of not-yet-available-on-the-market synthesisers and drum machines turned up in a delivery crate Dennis realised that this was very much for real. A few days later Ryuichi Sakamoto knocked on the door of his London studio and over the course of the next three days one of the most forward-thinking, futuristic proto-techno cuts was forged into existence. It sounded like nothing else at the time and more than 45 years on there is still nothing that sounds like “Riot In Lagos” Join us Monday 30th March at Jumbi for a very special @acenturyinsound talk + listening session led by @dennisbovell MBE, exploring Riot in Lagos by @skmtgram a track released in 1980 that many credit as the blueprint for electro, years before the sound fully took hold in clubs across the world.
