When I was making “Want - Create - Plate” with Genesis we visted Director Bong Joon Ho’s post-Oscar restaurant of choice of Koreatown: @SobanLosAngeles . My favorite part of this project was the scout — when owner Jennifer Pak made us sit down and taste everything we would film. Hands down one of my best meals in LA. Taken from the audiovisual album All Became Golden, recorded live with four cameras over two days, it is as much about the process as the end result. This is the pure alchemy of collaboration. It was a work that required so many artists to trust in one another. From composer Nico Muhly’s stunning arrangements, to the legendary Larry Cambell joining on guitar, and ultimately Bob Clearmountain who lovingly mixed the record to picture. Yesterday, I heard @dontworryitssheila describe art as “a beautiful transaction” between maker and audience — watchers, readers, listeners alike. It brought me right back to the once-in-a-lifetime experience of making Max Richter’s SLEEP with @yuliamahr , @maxrichtermusic , and our incredible team of cinematographers, producers, editors — and of course, the audience who completed the work. Every contributor offered a piece of themselves. The sum became something larger, something that will be experienced for generations. As I reflect on another rotation around the sun, I’m deeply grateful for every collaboration that has shaped me — and excited for the art we’ve yet to make together.

Our mornings are the length of whole days… Somewhere between laughing and arguing with her, I think deeply about waking up without her—deeply enough to what to put my whole heart into a film about it. While making this my family experienced our first lock down due to a gunman outside her preschool.
