Third time’s the charm 🎧🏈 Never thought I’d attend a Super Bowl in my lifetime, let alone MIX THREE. My third season with NFL Films was my best yet. Mic-ed Eli Manning, traveled across the world for the John Cena farewell tour, mixed Hard Knocks with the NY Giants, and of course, the Super Bowl. Thank you @lauraalehmann for championing women technicians in these stadiums. We belong in every major event. Been crying a lot this weekend, I can’t lie. For years I’ve carried around a roll of film that my late grandfather took in San Fran. He was a photographer and I wish I could tell him about the shape of my life now, all the flights I’m catching, the sounds I’m capturing. I mixed this game for him. Hallowarrior premieres June 10 @tribeca 🎧 I am unbearably proud of this flick and this team. I’m biased, sure, but if you see one horror movie at Tribeca this year, make it ours. I dare you. In college I took my bestie @juliaj27 to see Hereditary and it changed my life. Flash forward about half a decade and I’m mixing horror greats inside this gnarly world Ben created. Very proud of the life I’ve manifested, and the artists who keep letting me preserve their screams. I’d rock another month of overnights to experience the magic that happened here, any damn time. Roommates premieres on @netflix today!!! Thank you Sarah Myers for bringing me on as your additional utility. Among a lot of fun wiring, I got to boom the Megan Thee Stallion scene with Ken Strain- SUCH a “pinch me I’m dreaming” moment. Thank you Paul Pouthier, Thomas Varga, Ken, and Sarah for letting me join your team for your cast-heavy days. I had a blast and learned techniques I’m currently rocking. I’m mixing a Netflix show so can’t make the fest in the flesh, but to make up for it I’ll be more online this next week to talk contraceptives and female rage. Larry Fessenden’s “Trauma or, Monsters All” premieres next month @overlookfilmfest . I’ve been a diehard fan of this man’s work and DIY ethos since I was 17 and got my hands on Until Dawn. To now be officially and forever a part of his Monsterverse, as the one-woman prod sound team of “Trauma,” is everything. The shit I used to get bullied for is now my biggest not-so-secret weapon. I love monsters and monsters love me. This was an absolutely full-circle moment for little Genna, who’d hide library books about werewolves and vampires from my parents (they used to be a lil Satanic Panic, my folks). Larry’s films are the bedrock of my belief about the horror genre- these movies matter because they show the “other” as vulnerable, lovable, often more human than flesh-and-blood humans. I call myself a vampire and this is why. We’ve already been written about by @variety , @indiewire , @bdisgusting , @ruemorguemag . Gods, I’m just a horror girlie inside THE dream! More BTS to come. Baby’s first cart 🥳 Introducing: Morticia- my 16 channel narrative ensemble cart. She’s 5 years in the making. I thought it would take me a decade to land the type of job where I would need her, but in classic Genna fashion, here we are. Morticia would not exist without the support of my mentors and community. There are a handful of mixers I owe this kit to- y’all know who you are. You sold me your used gear when I could barely afford rent. You taught me ways to assemble without breaking the bank. You helped me source bits and bobs. You literally handed me down cart infrastructure. To go from the sexism I experienced early on in this industry to having a cart supported by men who mixed some of my favorite films is not lost on me. Special shout out to Dave Tirolo and Dennis Rainaldi for the infrastructure that built Morticia and soon, her daughter Wednesday (follow cart)! Thank you Dimitri Kouri for helping me wrap my brain around this giant build. Thank you Paul Pouthier for letting me mix behind your cart not even a month ago- I feel so ready.
