In anticipation of Passenger, Bloody Disgusting has partnered with Paramount Pictures to deliver a limited podcast series dedicated to the latest slice of horror from André Øvredal. For the next week, Creepy, Scare You to Sleep, Mayfair Watchers Society, SCP Archives, and The Antiquarium of Sinister Happenings will deliver five original stories inspired by the van life nightmare. The 1970s cult classic Magic starring Anthony Hopkins is getting a remake, with Sam Raimi DIRECTING the film for Lionsgate! The “newly imagined” take on the 1978 killer doll movie is written by Mark Swift & Damian Shannon (Freddy vs. Jason, Raimi's Send Help). The original Magic starred Anthony Hopkins as Corky, a magician who reaches fame alongside his ventriloquist’s dummy, the obnoxious and wisecracking Fats—whom Corky cannot control. Also starring Ann-Margret and Burgess Meredith, directed by Richard Attenborough, and written by William Goldman, based on his novel, the movie made waves even before its release with its terrifying TV ads, which declared, “Magic is fun—we’re dead.” Meagan Navarro wrote here on Bloody Disgusting back in 2023, “Magic is an underappreciated classic and one of horror’s most unnerving love stories.” Her 45th anniversary piece continued, “Magic wasn’t the first time that a ventriloquist was terrorized by his own dummy, but its emphasis on the psychological, Hopkins’ intense performance, and Attenborough opting for straightforward tension without a hint of camp elevated the film into something that holds up well. While an official synopsis for the Blair Witch Project reboot is being kept under wraps, the first plot details have surfaced this week. According to Deadline, “it will deal with a family that goes on a camping trip but goes missing one by one after they hear strange noises in the forest.” Not a whole lot to go on, but it’s a start. Stay tuned for more information as we learn it. Dylan Clark (Portrait of God) is set to direct the new take on the seminal found footage horror franchise from a script he’s rewriting from Chris Devlin. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Atomic Monster‘s James Wan are producing with Roy Lee and Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath. Original Blair Witch Project filmmakers Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, producer Gregg Hale, and stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Before he passed away in 2017, horror master George A. Romero had been developing one final zombie movie titled Twilight of the Dead, which has shown brief signs of life here and there over the years. The film is now finally shambling to the screen, with Kate Beckinsale on board to star. Deadline reports that Beckinsale has replaced the previously announced Milla Jovovich in the film. The project has been overhauled not only with a fresh star but also new directors. The Paz Brothers (Jeruzalem, The Golem) are taking over the directorial reins from Brad Anderson, with stunts veteran Ho-Sung Pak (Bullet Train, Nightcrawler) set to helm the stunt and action sequences. Twilight of the Dead is set on a decimated earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat. No word on if the script is being updated as well, but the previous iteration is credited to Joe Knetter (Blind), Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, based on George A. Mattel’s Monster High line gets an out-of-this-world look this Friday with the release of an official Killer Klowns from Outer Space doll based on beloved movie character Shorty. Mattel previews, “This Klown may look diabolical, but don’t worry, Shorty probably won’t harvest you in cotton candy cocoons.
