Harpo appreciation post because it’s been awhile. And because I’m home with the flu. And it’s raining outside. And these sort of times call for all things cozy. And because none of your beeswax why :P
Testing my new Mother’s Day gift + microphone sounds = necessary tools for the upcoming MEET THE TAROT virtual workshop. Who’s your favorite dork and don’t you forget it.

She puts it perfectly, and I feel seen 💸 💸
Sidenote- Yes I know I’m not doing myself any favors to keep reading books about book editors of the past, who clearly worked a different way, the labor of love way, and a way that seems to have disappeared. Are there still editors who edit like this out there? I wonder. I know feeding manuscripts into AI software for quick summaries isn’t the way, though; that’s for certain times infinity of all the certains.
Maybe the kids will bring it back 💗✍🏼 ?
(My sincere apologies to all the kids: so much pressure for you to save a world we’ve left you in total shambles.)
EDIT // NOTE: For those paying close attention, re: my rant about modern-day editors. My intention was not to hurt anyone's feelings, but rather to express what seems to be a real horror on the horizon: the use of AI by editors and their assistants without the author's consent. Consent is the word. (And I received a few private messages: “Yes! labor-of-love editors do still exist!” And Yes I was aware, just grumpy about AI, and pleasure to meet you 💐etc.)
I think the real takeaway here, which relates to the post's original intention, is that everyone should try their very best to do what they love to do. That's exactly what she (author, editor Diana Athill) expresses here in this excerpt. She knew her strengths and loves, focused totally on them, and the money came. Enough money will always come when we follow the soul's true purpose. Somehow, someway.
The trouble (the soul trouble, which inevitably seeps into human behavior trouble) happens when we pretend to be one thing and are actually another. For example, if one is more passionate about competitive sales, money, wealth, and winning than they are about being a forester, artisan, writer, painter, editor, designer, family person, etc., then say it loud and proud. Free yourself.
The game down here is small beans! Remember it 🌚🕊️
Let little AI find a restaurant, check your spelling or find directions. But your advice? Your thinking? Your companionship? Your trusty genius pocket pal who makes you look smart? For someone who loves to win so much, you're paying a reckless price.
CARD OF THE DAY ❖
Whenever it hits the table, there’s an exhale, an immediate sense of balance, safety, ease.
No matter which deck I use, the shapes are often the same: tall, straight, thin but still sturdy; like pillars they stand in pairs of two, usually on either side of a painted scene of domestic bliss, or for pip card freaks like me: a simple criss-cross will do.
Most tarot readers, if they’re being honest, have a favorite card (or two or twelve). It’s a danger zone, the favorites, for neutrality is the name of the game, and favorites make room for personal delusions to creep in- but it happens; how could it not? Some cards just make a heart go boom.
The Four of Wands is one of those cards for me.
Fours = Stability
Wands = Spirit
The Four of Wands = Stability of Spirit
See what I mean? A stable spirit reigns supreme. One can have a scattered mind, a broken heart, fractured bones, and still have a stable spirit. To maintain the spirit’s health is of utmost importance and never more vital than during turbulent days like the ones we now find ourselves in.
In its light energy, its happy place, the Four of Wands can signify healthy, deep soul bonds; stable home environments; long-held dreams finally coming true; marriage and divine union; a thriving community, etc.
The shadow version of the Four of Wands might indicate someone who is scared to leave a “stable” job, family, or any kind of intimate relationship long ago expired, its potential for growth, vitality and happiness in the rearview mirror and yet the comfort of the known somehow feels better than rocking the boat, no matter that the spirit suffocates.
As always, please remember: every tarot card that lands on the table depends totally on the general energy in the air (at the time of the reading), the energy between the reader and the seeker/patron, the other cards on the table, and the matter or question at hand.
Okay, that’s all for now, class dismissed 😘

“Shudder has acquired “Hallowarrior,” a post-apocalyptic thriller that marks the feature debut of writer and director Ben Sottak.
“Hallowarrior” will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 10 and will debut on Shudder this fall. “Hallowarrior” follows Pumpkin (Shapiro), the last girl on earth and sole survivor of a humanity-ending plague, scavenging the wasteland for supplies on the eve of Halloween. Pumpkin’s lonely holiday ritual is interrupted by the arrival of a savage gang of raiders at her doorstep led by Thalia (Sossamon). Outnumbered and armed with candy, wit and weapons, Pumpkin must ferociously fight back to survive the night.
Sottak is a NYC-based filmmaker. “Hallowarrior” is his feature debut as a writer-director. “’Hallowarrior’ is a love letter to horror and Halloween, and I am thrilled that the film has found its home with a distributor whose brand is synonymous with both,” said Sottak. “It’s an honor to have ‘Hallowarrior’ join the Shudder family, and a treat to introduce their audience to this fun, scary, gory film along with its badass lead, Pumpkin, played by the incredible Milly Shapiro.”
“From the moment we saw ‘Hallowarrior,’ we knew this was a natural fit for Shudder. The film fully understands what genre fans come to the platform for — strong scares, spooky atmosphere and a wild ride. It’s the kind of horror that plays directly to our audience and reinforces why the service is such a trusted home for bold, crowd-pleasing genre filmmaking, especially around the Halloween season,” said IFC Entertainment Group director of acquisitions and productions Adam Koehler.
“Hallowarrior” is produced by Emmajane Hoffman and Sottak for Strange Aeons, Gabriel Rosenstein for The Spitting Image, Danielle Benedict and Jake Casey for The Dazey Phase, and executive produced by Alec Ring and Shannyn Sossamon. The deal was negotiated by Koehler for Shudder with Isadora Johnson for Cinetic on behalf of the filmmakers.”
