Hall of Famers Goose Gossage and Ferguson Jenkins were among those who came to #Denver (along with Chicago @whitesox White organist Nancy Faust, inventor of baseball’s walk-up song) for the world-premiere screening of “My Father, Dick Allen,” a developing five-part documentary series on the life of a largely misunderstood superstar who overcame unrelenting abuse and racism on his 50-year path to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. It all went down at @seriesfest and the Sie FilmCenter. Denver’s own Pam Grier is being honored Friday, when the Alamo Drafthouse’s Littleton locale is rechristened “The Pam Grier Cinema.” Talking this week, the Denver East and Metropolitan State University of Denver trailblazer reflected on growing up in Park Hill, movie outings on the bus to downtown Denver, how her work challenged sexism and racism while inspiring women’s empowerment across generations – and already having gone to Heaven. Oh, and plans are still in the works to bring her memoir to the screen. I asked who could possibly play a young Pam Grier? “You,” she said. “With some dark fashion, some makeup and a wig or some cornrow extensions. Sie’s greatest accomplishment, his daughter says, is the recent dramatic increase in life expectancy for people with Down syndrome.
