For a while now I’ve been trying to allow more free association, etc., into my work. This has resulted in more representational elements creeping in. With the painting in this post, it’s a bit more explicit. I did it late last year and named it Life Lessons. At the time I thought the title was a little bland and maybe corny…but now it seems apropos. It’s been a topsy turvy year so far. I fell and broke my wrist in December but didn’t find out it was broken until late May. I just had surgery on Monday and ouch, it hurts. My dear and great artist friend of over 30 years, Tuan Nguyen, passed away from cancer in March. Please check out his work. It’s beautiful, and so is he.
@thingsurcher doglegnexus.com My uncle David died recently as well. A kind and gentle soul. He will be missed. So I guess that title rings true right now. And the painting is, well, about life and death. I suppose that’s true about most art. Just trying to understand what it’s all about. Creating a model to describe the hilarity, absurdity and beauty of this experience. My surgeon drew some notations on my knuckle with a sharpie before my surgery. To me it kind of looks like a smirky face. We see what we want to I guess. And I think that’s why we’re here :) thanks if you read all of this!!!🥳😀🥳
