Did you know NASA astronauts receive only 40 hours of medical training before space exploration missions? Deep space missions can last between 1-3 years, meaning those forty hours of training may have to be recalled over 1000 days later. To combat this issue, the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (“TRISH”) sought to create an entirely new training experience for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration; one that was hyper-real, scalable and interactive, so astronauts could further their medical training while in-flight. Led by Radiant Images, Panogramma and Dr. Roger Daglius Dias, MD, PhD, MBA at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard University, in collaboration with several other companies, a vision for a mixed reality (MR) medical training experience took shape. Our incredible team set out on a remarkable journey, collaborating with astronauts and flight surgeons to flesh out the complexities of learning in an innovative new way - through hyper-realistic holographic (volumetric) + (photogrammetry) videos! Instead of traditional methods of training videos were the learner would have learn by watching the entire video from start to stop and from a fixed view. We pioneered a revolutionary way of learning by providing endless exploration opportunities through digital replicas of the world and its people. This immersive experience gave learners total freedom to wander and full interactivity inside the video. wherever their curiosity takes them! Critically, there’s no delay between capture and access.
