Inspired by favorite coastal hotels in Italy and the spirit of La Dolce Vita, the wedding inspiration was a sun-soaked Italian summer. Held at the the family vineyards in Santa Ynez, their celebration brought together rock-star musician friends and wedding party, and more than 30 ER doctors and nurses. She wore a stunning not-a-wedding dress from Gucci with an asymmetrical, single sleeve, in a tone shifting between pale peach and terracotta. His sharp suite was custom Celine. A weekend celebration that was thoughtful, inspired, artistic, and relaxed. They walked down the aisle to Nick Cave, and Neil Young’s Harvest Moon was their first dance song. I slipped out of my room with a big camera, fading light, and no tripod, so I balanced the camera on the back of a chair (very professional). I know so many photographers don’t use tripods anymore; it’s still one of my favorite tools, even if it’s cumbersome (even carbon fiber). I was happy to capture a few frames in near-darkness on film, tripod-free. Susie and Veer were married “in the round” at the historic Lafayette Park amphitheater—an entrance from each side, a circle of friends and family all around. After a group photo using the amphitheater’s tiers as our backdrop and portraits with the San Francisco Bay, everyone continued the celebration at Foreign Cinema with screenings of Bollywood films projected in the background. Danny and Zainab’s intimate and sacred Muslim ceremony, held at the home she and her sister grew up in. When I scouted the location with her parents, the spiral staircase and bay windows inspired me and I suggested a group photo of everyone who attended; in the end, the photos became a bit of an homage to the home itself.
