🪵👾 A prototype for a sculpture built of wood and pixels Last month we were invited by Lars Kristensen at Skövde University to create an artwork for Campfire Conference, a lovely gathering of professionals working at the intersections between digital art and physical performance. ’Blocks at Large’ is a sculpture consisting of 10 wooden blocks, roughly cut from white poplar, with hand painted tracking codes. Each block is connected to a digital twin, 20x larger, which follows its minute movements. As you move a block, you simultaneously rearrange a virtual public artwork on the square outside. The digital world is always rooted in the physical. Each bit depends on real power, each pixel relies on real matter. Here, we treat this hidden dependency as the raw material for the work itself ~ an exploration of interactive public art that is simultaneously digital and physical. 🌑 Empathy Objects by Maren Dagny Juell, a new AR artwork exhibited on the 5fth Plinth at the British Art Fair. The piece is based off artefacts from Maren’s upcoming film Community Guidelines, premiering later this year. The film imagines a dystopian future shaped by social media’s “community guidelines,” where a former content moderator—tasked with censoring violent and disturbing imagery—appears on a talk show. During the interview, she reveals a series of surreal experiences as abstract objects from her dreams begin to manifest in reality. 🥭🥭🥭 An interview with Shruti Nagaraj about her work Maavu, created from field recordings and 3D-scans of a mango grove in Bengaluru. Maavu is exhibited at the Fifth Plinth as a part of DIGITALISM at the British Art Fair. The mangoes, in stages of development, undergo an ASCII-style transformation across symbols in two local languages - Kannada and English, mapping a multilingual cycle of growth, consumption, and decay.
