2024 marks my first year exploring and making immersive experiences🫶🏻 Being able to take an idea or concept and create a space around it, fill it with as much information or visuals or stories is just amazing. It's like creating a world within a world and I absolutely love it. Daydream, 2024 Witness an insight into a photograph through an AR (augmented reality) based poem layered onto it. One More Cup (2024) is an integrated media project developed by Ashima Pargal @icollectlight as a part of MA Digital Direction @rca_digitaldirection It challenges the romanticism of coffee by bringing out the environmental and socio-economic costs behind producing coffee through a combination of augmented reality (AR) and screen based animation. Arabica coffee plants are an endangered specie. While coffee adds a dreamy, aesthetic and emotional value to our lives as consumers, there is so much more that’s happening on ground. Our interaction with coffee doesn’t always engage with the bitter truths associated with its production. The audience are brought into a multi-screen immersive environment featuring coffee and are then prompted to discover the hidden aspects of production through an AR experience. Anchored onto the café on the main screen, the AR experience reveals climate based data and facts showing the on ground reality. The clouds shaped as various coffee elements can be adapted to multiple screens to create an immersive space for the viewer. Created in collaboration with Dr. Justin Moat, Senior researcher at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, London. Dr Moat’s team’s research got Arabica enlisted as an endangered specie under the International Union of Conservation of Nature’s Red List in 2020. The project was technically developed using a combination of Unreal Engine, Adobe Aero, Blender, and Photoshop under the expert guidance of Rian Stephens @rian.stephens and Mike Faulkner. The project was on view at RCA, White City campus from 26-28 July and is coming up at Outernet this September

Some snips from 'Fragmented City,' a conceptual narrative sound design project exploring how the change in the name of a city impacts its identity.
