I Am The Birds I team up with long-term collaborators Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist) and Kweku Sackey (K.O.G) and their collaborative project Onipa for an uplifting fusion of orchestral arrangements, slow-burning afrobeats, garage and dancehall rhythms, digging deeper into the themes of disability and collective liberation explored by me on my previous work.
-
The single comes paired with the announcement of the forthcoming MATTERS UNKNOWN EP ‘Silhouettes: A Dream Sphere Journal’, which will be released on Friday 24th January 2025. Vinyl pre order available on Bandcamp!

Autumn times upon us.
-
Releases coming, new school term, new skills sets on the way, physical health in turmoil and heart all over the place. Balance eh?
-
Welcome to autumn the most beautiful and redeeming season. Renewal, acknowledgement and peace.
-
This track is our cut of a beat by @karriemriggins1 entitle Double Trouble from his Alone Together record which is sampled from ‘Summerhill’ by @hermetopascoal Brazilian Octopus project. Good music finds a way through generations. Tradition of heartfelt quality will always find a way through.
I am so grateful to exist here and now, with the collaborators I have and contemporaries on the scene.
-
There is such a wealth of talent and it also relies on us to give voice to the generations of ancestors behind this music. The social histories and roots of expression. This is something I take seriously as part of my educational practice and as a performing artist.
-
Upcoming show on 15th of October with the trio plus Afro Cuban trio collab.
New single ‘Other Side’ out on the 5th featuring @olivejonesmusic
Followed by another ‘Come As You Are’ feat @nadeemdingabisi on 19th.

Remember that whilst things change it is ok to grieve, I now cry each day over my worsening health and family, without these tears I would have gone bat shit crazy so find expression in your way and release. Bottling does not work!

Let’s Talk Access: Staffordshire St
-
This Friday 13th, Donut Jam lands at Staffordshire St with MATTERS UNKNOWN performing a new immersive set alongside live visuals @filmsbybeth and DJ @brorhavnes
-
Ahead of the show, we’re sharing a look at venue accessibility.
Access information helps people decide whether an event works for them — especially for disabled and neurodivergent audiences who are too often excluded from arts spaces.
-
To support this, a series of access reels is beginning so audiences can see venues in advance — entrances, layout, and what to expect — before deciding to attend.
Donut Jam / Staffordshire St shared a detailed accessibility sheet ahead of the event, and it’s encouraging to see venues actively working to support a range of physical and sensory access needs. Alongside a 3D tour.
-
This reel offers a walk-through of the space so everyone can judge for themselves whether the event feels accessible.
-
If access information helps you attend events:• share this• tag someone who might need it• ask venues for access info when it’s missing
The more access information is shared, the more accessible arts spaces become.

Some places I been,
Some people I love,
Some winter I survived and I am here telling you to celebrate my 3rd Ampuversary.
-
3 years of transformation across a threshold of unknown length. Today I feel like I am arriving, arriving into myself. A dreamer, a lover with a heart filled with undying curiosity and softness for what’s to come.
-
I shall be sharing this with you here and there. But let me tell you, I am back, with purpose and a deep knowing of that which must be done.
-
Let’s go.
this Friday 13.03.26 we bring together three outstanding artists - @mattersunknown@filmsbybeth & @brorhavnes - for our next celebration 🍩
MATTERS UNKNOWN is the evolving ensemble of Jonathan Enser (Nubiyan Twist, Blue Note), and will be providing our opening set. Blending spiritual jazz, psychedelic soul and contemporary improvisation, the group creates expansive, rhythm-driven music that balances composition, freedom, poetry and ambient textures.
We are rejoined by donut regular Beth Walker - filmmaker, visual artist and animator. Her experiments with processes, often involving reactive materials at macro scales, inform her visual effects that will be projected across the space.
Bror Havnes, Norwegian saxophonist, record collector and purveyor of deep cuts will join us on the decks, bringing something funky, something avant-garde and everything in between 🫡

Whilst the world offers reflections from 10 years ago,
I’m sharing something from this season — 3 years ago — when I was only weeks away from my amputation.
At that time, I released a single with Blue Note US alongside @totalrefreshmentcentre — where I’m fatefully now based.
The track features the captivating vocals of @miryamsolomon and centres on the power and impact of language — words we co-wrote together.
This piece became one of the most formative compositions of my creative practice. It was among the first three works written for this project and quietly shaped the years that followed.
Since the release, some may have noticed changes in the line-up.
@alechewes (bass), @theloniousfab (keys), and @mattdaviesdrums (drums) have since moved on, and I couldn’t have asked for more generous collaborators or companions during such a transitional chapter of my life.
Some who were at the gig may remember the visible pain I was in, and the heavy medication I relied on just to get through.
But somehow — the music prevailed.
I have launched a mailing list in my bio where I will be sharing this video two weeks ahead of public. So please join to take a step closer to me.
Share if this resonates.
Follow if you’d like to see more.

Making some noise for the artist
-
Raimund and I have been collaborating for 4 years now in an ever expanding tree of pathways. Visual and musical.
-
The most recent single Deepings pt. 2 When a Love is Pure is my ode to queer love and loves temporal power to change your appreciation of time and gravity. My references were sunsets and hands. This is what the music sounds like to me.
However I wanted to go one step further and as the musicians of years once past did, to have a lovers presence on a cover. A very bold and brave step, but one I think I wanted to include you on.
-
Deepings, Silhouettes and We Aren’t Just are all Raimund’s designs we always dived deep into the ideas, inspirations and thematic tones thoroughly.
-
After discovering Raimund’s work years ago, I honestly didn’t even consider the notion of working with anyone else and I still feel exactly the same way.
Thanks to all the incredibles working in broadcast and playing my music. Here is a selection of the hits!

As a multi instrumentalist I flow so much between my instruments whilst producing, I so often forget to be honest and focussed on my 1st love.
-
When I was 9 years old a man came into my school, he was marketting music lessons and played clarinet; flute, trombone and trumpet. When he got to the last my ears were filled with clarity and my mind focussed. I knew in that moment that I would be a trumpeter. Not everyone gets this light bulb moment or opportunity and this is exactly why I worked in primary schools for 10 years leading the way.
-
My first instrument has taken me around the world as a session musician and been the centre of my artistic practice for 23 years, it was my main source of income whilst also a deep passion.
Production and composition are now where I find that focus and clarity but I still have such a tender place in my heart for the trumpet.
-
I will keep sharing my vibes on the instrument in the coming weeks as I think it’s important you see me in my element, where I have come from and where I am going.

Today is the day
-
Flew in ahead of time to give all my polish disabled crew a heads up on how @jassminewarsaw is managing accessibility at one of my favourite venues in Europe.
-
This delicately lit cocktail bar in Warsaw is in a class of its own when it comes to ambience and programming and has become most artists favourite jazz venue in Europe for a reason.
-
It’s level access throughout and the staff are incredibly accommodating to meet your requirements and provide table service throughout your visit.
-
Whilst they don’t have a fully equipped disabled toilet in the club, they do in the Nobu hotel it’s attached to and are happy to guide you there. The sound quality in the venue is incredible and never overpowering - however if you require ear defenders you would need to provide these.
-
I’m beyond excited to perform this evening and take this room on a unique journey.
