We had the honor of receiving a private tour of „Digital Semiotics“ by Viktoria Binschtok (studio.binschtok) at @galerieklemms - and, as luck would have it, we even ran into the artist by chance in the gallery. The exhibition is a sharp, layered reflection on how images circulate today: fragments, codes, and visual “signals” from the digital world are translated back into meticulously constructed photographic works. It’s the kind of show that rewards slow looking… the more time you spend, the more it unfolds. Only one week left (Jan 23 – Mar 7, 2026) - go see it while you can. YOUNG GENERATION ART AWARD 2026 — I was invited for the second time to the award ceremony at Berlin’s Hotel de Rome. Big congrats again to Ken Nwadiogbu (@kennwadiogbu ) — and respect to the full 2026 shortlist: Arne Grashoff, Emmélie Lempert, Lunita July Dorn, Yuhao Chen, and Ken Nwadiogbu. It’s been a few days already, but here are a few of my personal highlights from ART KARLSRUHE 2026 (Feb 5–8). I’ve always liked this fair because it feels clear, spacious, and genuinely relaxed—a great atmosphere, and from year to year it’s impressively well attended. Two personal discoveries for me this time were the works of Ertuğrul Güngör (@ertugrulgungor ) & Faruk Ertekin (@ertekinfrk ), as well as Tobias Vetter’s (@tobias_vetter_ ) textile pieces. As always, it was also a pleasure to run into so many familiar faces: @bba.gallery (@vishalshah.io & @artist_renatakudlacek ), showing works including @verena.bachl ; @kornfeldgalerie with @shanee_roe and @christopher.lehmpfuhl ; @uekermann_kunsthandel with @alexanderdeubl and @sibylle_wagner_ Wagner. It was also wonderful to see @stephaniehuellmann ’s works in person—who also hosts the @ateliertalk.podcast (we talk digital art in episode 118). And of course—a heartfelt thank you once again to @mariobermel for the companionship, guidance, and introductions throughout. If you’re into art and want a fair that’s high-quality without being overwhelming, I can warmly recommend ART KARLSRUHE.

Berlin brought the digital art community back together - focused, professional, and substantial. Some years ago the scene was bigger, but also noisier and more “spammy.” Now it’s smaller, higher-quality, and more committed: people and teams building for the long term - platforms, curators, artists, tech, and collectors. For me, it was a great event: many familiar faces and quite a few new ones I previously only knew from their X handles or from my wallets. String Constructions A space of threads, lines, and shadows. Nothing loud – yet something shifts in perception. I stand there, among cotton threads that barely touch the room, and feel my attention slowing down. Every line feels like a breath, every tension a decision. Miyamoto’s works are not mere objects, but states of being – precise, fragile, present. The installation spaces at KW feel contemplative; the medium is disarmingly simple, yet its layering creates infinite complexity. Yesterday I attended the opening of “Starmirror” by @holly_herndon and @matdryhurst at @kwinstitutefcontemporaryart , Berlin. The project shifts our understanding of authorship: it’s not only us shaping the machine—the space organizes us into a choir. Voices, bodies, and gazes become the material of a collective process that is less a “work” than an infrastructure: a public studio where listening, recording, and negotiation converge. The exhibited pieces form a holistic installation. “The Ladder” (2003), which draws on religious iconography, and “The Hearth” (2024)—a kind of organ driven by GPU fans—make the room, together with the sound installation, feel like a cathedral. Acoustically, the space seems larger than it actually is at KW. The sound installation plays AI-generated output from various Herndon/Dryhurst projects. Throughout the exhibition, training data is augmented by visitors’ songs; on several dates the gallery becomes a recording studio, creating a public choral dataset—essentially a Berlin AI Choir. Tonight I visited the opening of @aaron_scheer – AEONESIS by @office_impart . Aaron is one of those artists whose way of working particularly fascinates me. He belongs to a generation of artists who don’t position themselves as purely digital or purely physical, but rather move naturally between both worlds. I think it’s both right and important to have the confidence—as in his case—to make use of AI models, while shaping the beginning and end of the work entirely by hand. Generative models here remain a tool—inscribed into a process that is then overlaid again by human intuition, craftsmanship, and the inherent imperfections that come with it. Personally, I find that this tension reflects our broader societal approximation of this subject. The works thus gain an additional depth—almost a third layer, if you will.
