𝗛𝗼𝗲 𝘇𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝘇𝗶𝗲𝗸 𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁?

TL;DR: Habitants tour dates and some personal context. I don’t usually share much on the personal side here, but this feels like a good moment. I’ve been part of @habitants_band over the past year in the studio, with synths and supporting vocals. Tomorrow we start a small tour across the Netherlands, supporting @annekevangiersbergenofficial ! Quite excited for this. It’s been a while since I’ve worked on a music project purely as a musician, without making visuals, even though music has been with me my whole life. Since moving to the NL, the spiralling, tumbling, rewiring, dizzying ride of immigrancy has drained a lot of energy, motivation, and a bit of hair. Arriving somewhere you don’t speak the language in your mid-30s, trying to find your place within and outside, learning to let go of the constant need to justify yourself… it takes its share. And makes you forget. Meanwhile, my visual arts practice has taken the main stage here, which has been liberating and allowed me to explore new territories while physically on a new one. But this can also feel limiting at times, as people tend to associate you with one thing for professional practicality. If you’ve met me in the past 6–7 years, it’s likely you know me as the “pixel guy.” I’m very happy and invested in that path, but I had missed making music purely for the sake of music, with people. Then appears this group of silhouettes from inside that fog, with open hearts and their drop-D guitars. Working together toward a shared goal without expectations beyond showing up and digging for something meaningful feels rare, and it reminds me of many great memories. Grateful to get the chance to build new ones with them. Thank you my dear friends @gemasiul , @rruttenn , @annevdhoogen , @mirtemeraki , and @jeromemiedendorpdebie for inviting me into that circle around the warm campfire you’ve created. And a big hug to my favourite person @black_milk_factory for introducing me to these lovely people (and more) in the first place. In these upcoming shows, we’ll be playing songs from Habitants’ previous two albums as well as some new ones we made together. Hope to see you there! I’ll pin the dates in a comment below.

“10 Steps” by Kerim Safa on @night_lights_denver curated by Braw Haus. 10 Steps, is an audiovisual work that maps the ten floors of the Daniels & Fisher Tower into a large-scale musical sequencer. Each row functions as an independent synthesizer track, with individual windows lighting up as rhythmic steps across the facade. Composed in a 10/8 time signature aligned with the window structure of the projection area, the work incorporates the architecture directly into the musical compositional process.

dot:mat:pat A series of looping animations created on a monochrome matrix. Each loop is constructed through simple rulesets defining pattern, density, and motion. Exploring how minimal input produces rhythmic structures and visual illusions at a larger scale. In this selection, every pixel is treated as a solid element and cannot overlap. Each one resolves onto a larger underlying grid, where it lands, holds, and shifts in sequence. These loops were created at different times over the past few years. Digitally hand drawn and animated frame by frame.
