Last weekend, our Camping to Connect team in NYC led a training for our new class of volunteers, which includes some former participants. We are excited to implement our special curriculum that combines outdoor leadership with social emotional learning. This initiative aims to address social isolation and foster a sense of belonging and community.
We are thrilled to have recruited our own “Santa,” bringing decades of experience in teaching youth outdoor skills and offer invaluable wisdom to our team.

One of the most restorative experiences I had this year was a weekend retreat at @ncascades with 46 other Black men from all over the country who sought connection and self-care, embracing the power of nature + brotherhood. Serving young men of color through the work we do at @campingtoconnect is purposeful and important work, and it can also leD to feeling depleted when your cup begins to run low. Being part of #demboyznthewood and able to retreat for a few days is a most cherished opportunity that I look forward to.

DO NOT DISTURB 😌Out of office break for the holiday weekend with the boys camping by @greatsanddunesnps at the amazing @ramble.camp sites. A four hour drive from Denver through scenic routes in the Rocky Mountains with limited to none cellphone service. Shout out to @jalenbazile@dlopezesq44 and @thomasvhoffmann for summiting the Blanca Peak at 14,345 ft of elevation while I rested in my hammock and chilled with @matt.tarro at base camp for a much needed rest before resuming our work with teens @campingtoconnect next week, and bringing teenage boys of color from NYC to Colorado for the Fjallraven Classic USA 2024, where we’ll be backpacking 33 miles of the Us Continental Divide. A big shoutout to @msr_gear and @thermarest for providing us with reliable mountaineering equipment to thrive outside ⛺️ and to our friends @alltrails for keeping us on track! 🥾⛰️
On this Juneteenth we want to take a second to check in physically, mentally, and emotionally with one another. As the next generation rises alongside us, remember that our narratives as fathers, teachers, mentors, etc. become their inner voice.
Its our duty to make free in them what has been long trapped in us.
So get outside with one another, check-in, and celebrate our ongoing liberation. ✊🏾
