🍂 Update time; I’ve been out of commission for a few weeks now due to a lingering neck injury which has put a stop to all my training & head turning in general.
It’s been addressed now and is on a comeback but I’m not out of the woods yet.
It was a compilation of a childhood injury gone unaddressed, weight training and general wear that led to my neck locking up for a week at a time which has happened now a few times this year.
I have most mobility back now, but turning my head fast enough to land some moves I do isn’t something I’m ready for yet.
Anyway, it’s allowed time for introspection.
I’ll be back at it soon, I’ve got a handful of things I want to try.
Likely in the spirit of protecting my neck I’ll shift my focus from neck traps to more back & armpit pathways for a time.
So if you’re at home studying any of these moves keep practicing 🙃🙃🙃
I’m thinking it’s time to do a footwork vid.
It seems to be the missing link for most people, and I have the cheat code. 👀

🪤 Friday is Rip Traps
• Catching & releasing the stick from the pinch point between your arm & ribs - tons of combos and integrations for this underutilized pinch point.
• All skill levels welcome, there’ll be some advance things at the end but beginners can absolutely do the bulk of the class. Practice vertical neck rolls and neck traps to be able to access the advanced moves.
🪄 Saturday is Angel Roll Variations; which basically is going to be 8 advanced combo moves that all have an angel roll entrance -> into complex pathways combos & exits.
• Emphasis on *advanced, some of them are simple but they all require a solid foundation of arm and neck roll control; so brush up and practice your angel rolls, neck rolls & neck traps for this class.
• This whole class will be vertical plane rolls only so if you have a light weight stick with no flowers that will serve you best for this class.
I’m so stoked!! I’m thinking we have a stick jam after both classes to kick it and skill share more, since both classes are in the last time slot.

54 people showed up for that workshop 👀 that was crazy.

I’ve spent so much time deep diving into vertical plane it’s been a creeping thought of when I’ll find my way back to loving this plane.
It’s a balancing act, it takes patience, you have to be active on your feet, it takes up a lot more space, but it really is buttery.

✨ sneaky little angel entrance with an inverse neck roll interruption 👀 I diiiiig it
This was a twist of another angel roll variation I do but instead of keeping my feet grounded I turned everything to the right and let it skip across my collar to get to the exit.
Super fun; I’m gonna push it further, I got it a few times back on my shoulder instead of rolling down my V arm straight away but it was clunky.

🌌✨A constant reminder for myself that the time is going to pass anyway.
My self deprecative nature feels quieter so long as I maintain diligence 🤷🏼♀️
The line about being stuck in your own patterns really gets me.
Especially with spinning, idk about you but when I don’t have anything new to practice it means that I’m stuck in old patterns.
I reiterate the same oath to myself all the time that “the day you stop learning is the day you grow old.”
Idk if that’s a fear I have? Being stagnant?
Age isn’t a problem for me; growing older is a privilege.
Having time slip away without evolving, while repeating the same patterns, not pushing my own bar regularly - is what makes me uneasy.
Every time I post a video of me spinning I always study it to try to find new openings.
In the midst of making this vid I already see something new I’m going to try.
But at the same time I was feeling genuinely bored while spinning last night because I felt like I was repeating myself too much. 🙈
The rib trap/neck trap combos are becoming so fluid, I’m really happy with how that’s all going.
The things where the stick is isolated horizontally then I do a duck out and throw my head back to change the stick direction is suuuuper fun right now.
I can’t really track it yet; I just know that it feels very unexpected. Very “never let them know your next move”.

Seriously tho, I was studying my footage from last week and saw the opening for this roll where instead of that arm trapping the stick and carrying it over, if the arm straightened out and did a whole backbend duckout with that arm and my head.
All while twisting out and still catching it in a rib trap.
I can’t believe it actually worked tho!! Wtffff 🤯🤯🤯
I’ll clean it up, but I was shocked 😆
I can get into it easier too if I straighten that arm right away instead of having it to the side then bringing it up at the last second.
