100 Candleholders draws inspiration from JB’s 1981 exhibition 100 Plates Plus, where he playfully expanded a prolific form. Here, each artist brings a distinct approach to material, process, and the interplay between aesthetics and function. 100 Candleholders is on view at Blunk Space through March 28. — "...Inspired by medieval candle holders, its design evokes the craftsmanship and elegance of the past. It features an adjustable height mechanism, allowing for both aesthetic versatility and practical use." Lucas Cantú Candle Sconce, 2025 Wood, metal, Bic lighter Dimensions variable Minimum height 78 3/4 inches (200 cm) Maximum height 118 1/8 inches (300 cm) (@vvcas ) "During my residency at the Blunk House, I documented my week through photographs and painted the North Bay landscapes in my series Picture Sconces I–III (2024), and since then, I’ve continued creating these altar-like sculptures. This piece captures a sunset along the Northern California coast." Lucy Stark Picture Sconce VI (Coast at Sunset), 2025 Ceramic sconce with beeswax candle 13 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches 34.3 x 19.1 x 6.3 cm (@lucystark ) "The form of the wood symbolizes the inward spiritual journey we embark on as the days grow shorter and the rain returns...The materials are gathered from places in California which I find to be especially beautiful and transformative during the passage into fall which brings both death and rejuvenation." Mac McComb Fall Passage, 2025 Claro walnut, Mojave desert granite, Tomales bay sand 24 x 8 x 16 inches 61 x 20.3 x 40.6 cm (@macmccomb_ ) "Since the beginning of time, the hand has held the light." Like my father, I let the forms and inherent qualities of the stones dictate how and where I carve." Evergreen Oblique 04 One of an edition of six which I am so grateful to be showing with @worksinprogress_sf at the FOG MRKT 2026, January 22-25 at Fort Mason. Along side many talented artists and designers I was asked to create a piece for the threshold between our inner domestic lives and the outside world. These mirrors are meant as a reflection of ourselves in the wider context of our planet, a reminder of our role as humans in the broader ecosystem and a call to treat all beings with love and respect. Big thanks to @kate.hands.co and @kelley_perumbeti for including me and being such inspiring and talented individuals. Hope to see you there @fogfair

I’m incredibly honored to have this piece Fall Passage shown along side so many amazing artists and friends in the beautiful exhibition 100 Candleholders at Blunk Space. In this season with its frosty mornings and chilly evenings, it feels most appropriate to celebrate lovingly crafted objects which hold within them a small beacon of warmth and light. Thanks so much @mariah_nielson for including me. Please grace us with your presence at the opening if you can. 100 Candleholders January 17–March 28, 2026 Opening reception: Saturday, January 17 3–5pm Blunk Space 11101 CA-1 # 105 Point Reyes Station, CA 94956 Photo by Chris Grunder @grunder #jbblunk #blunkspace @jbblunkestate
