Big Sean Music Video ‘On Up’
This was special for so many reasons.
First because we did with family
@lawrencelamont @beteknows @eclecticishere .
Second, because it was shot on
@kodak_shootfilm with some of my favorite
@panavisionofficial glass.
Last, but not least, because it’s about fatherhood. We shot this two months after my second son was born, so not only could I relate tremendously to the beautiful song that Sean wrote, I was also able to add to the creative through my own fatherhood.
With
@lawrencelamont and
@beteknows unwavering support, we tried to shoot a video in a way that felt organic and that showed the evolution of a baby’s eyesight and perspective. The beginning of the video is in black and white Tri-X because babies don’t see colors when they are born. Then, they only see saturated colors and are sensitive to bright light, so
@kodak ektachrome (thanks
@marcellrev for helping bring it back to life) was perfect to show that.
This video had some unique challenges. I wanted shots to be handheld (that was fun on my back) and accurate to a baby’s POV, so we used a periscope to get closer to the ground. Add that light loss to Ekta’s ASA, and we were lighting like we were in 1950.
Thanks to our amazing team!
