Some films are beautiful, some films are necessary…. Peeling is both. Last year, we had the honor of executive producing this stunning short film, written and directed by Latavia Young and we made it the way the best things are made with family. One of our favorites, Diana Matos is our cinematographer, we shot on 16mm film, and the people closest to us helped bring this vision to life. “Peeling” is a vignette-driven short film that explores the complexities of girlhood through the eyes of 10-year-old Kendra as she develops an awareness of her vulnerabilities. Reminiscent of the off-center nature of dreams and memories, the film balances the beauty of girlhood with the trauma of disrupted youth. Despite the trials that Kendra faces, she finds solace in stolen moments with her best friend Maria and ultimately challenges her reality by vocalizing her truth We're 60% of the way there and need your help to finish it. ¡Hola mi gente! Diana Matos here… Although my production city is NYC, I live in Miami and find myself traveling everywhere in the US and in the Caribbean for work. I work mostly in features and TV, most known for having shot Jane for Creator+, Miguel Wants to Fight for Hulu, and Neon S1 for Netflix. I’ve also shot several doc series, like Supa Girlz, The Money Game, Golden: The Journey of USA’s Elite Gymnastics (nominated for a Sports Emmy). Making my way up the camera department nearly 20 years ago was not easy, but has definitely paid off.
