I came across the @higgsfield.ai Action Scene challenge a few weeks ago and decided to experiment. What started as a simple test turned into a condensed version of an old story idea I’ve wanted to explore for years: a Taíno man facing a conquistador in the early 1500s. The process for this kind of cinematic storytelling is unique, but I found it didn’t steer far from how I already approach filmmaking. More soon on my process and workflow. Personal note: I still have concerns about GenAI, its ethics, and environmental impact. But these tools are not going anywhere. Filmmakers and artists are already competing for fewer opportunities and shrinking resources, while gatekeeping still remains. The system is changing whether we like it or not. What will matter is who uses these tools with storytelling, structure, and intention, and who can build real creative pipelines around them. This was my first attempt with GenAI tools. Between directing gigs, I’m always cooking up original stories and worlds across different mediums. Samsara is one of them. Over the last couple years, I built this hand-drawn proof of concept with a small but extremely talented team, carving it out in our free time, to give you a taste of Samsara’s tone. Samsara is an adult animated sci-fi series exploring identity, memory, and the masks we wear when the line between human and machine starts to fade. This proof of concept is only 60 seconds, but this team poured a lot of love and effort into every frame. In a time where generative AI can spit out images and video instantly, taking the slower road gave me a deeper respect for the craft and for animators and designers who do as a profession.
