Sabar Bonda Wins Grand Jury Prize at @sundanceorg in World Cinema Dramatic competition section.
Here is to Indian Independent, Marathi and Queer Cinema!!!
Super stoked to collaborate with @dont.interrupt.while.we.dance in their screening tour. Our film will be playing as a part of their event in Shimla!
These screenings are being organised to further the resistance against the Trans Act 2026 which tries to invalidate trans and non-binary identities and is taking us backwards in time and justice. Join the event for conversations around such laws and how we need to stand together in resisting such deplorable policies being thrust upon us.
Thank you @alooreet@geetanjalikalta for organising this.

Sabar Bonda has this way of staying in moments a little longer than expected, not rushing past them or trying to underline what they mean. It notices the small things, the kind that usually get skipped over, and lets them breathe without turning them into something dramatic. Thereâs a quiet rhythm to it, where even the most ordinary interactions feel like theyâre carrying something underneath, without the film needing to point it out.
What I liked is how it doesnât feel the need to fill every space. It stays with pauses, with things not being fully said or resolved, and that gives it a certain honesty. It just moves at its own pace, trusting that youâll sit with it rather than expecting it to constantly hold your attention.

â Set in rural Maharashtra, Cactus Pears follows Anand (Bhushaan Manoj), a Mumbai call centre worker who returns to his ancestral village to observe the ten-day mourning ritual following his fatherâs death. While navigating the pressures of family expectations and marriage, he reconnects with Balya (Suraaj Suman), a childhood friend facing similar struggles. Over the course of the mourning period, their bond deepens into a tender and intimate relationship, creating a quiet exploration of grief, identity and queer love within a traditional rural community
