MAMI Independent presents short film “Loop Line” as part of its line-up for the next weekly free screening programme at PVR Lido, Juhu, Mumbai on Wednesday, 18th March 2026 at 7pm.
Renuka Shahane’s Marathi animated short film follows its female protagonist, a middle-aged housewife in Mumbai, as she tackles a monotonous life filled with her husband's chauvinist demands and never-ending chores by daydreaming. The film premiered at the 25th New York Indian Film Festival.
Though these escapist fantasies are momentary, they are ultimately her only source of relief – a disquieting reflection on the emotional realities of women in patriarchal households.
With the animation style of Paperboat Design Studios and Mahendra Kawale, the short uses effective colouring technique and shot composition to juxtapose the vastness of these dreams with the doldrum of reality. A lively canvas of bright colours is ruptured and transformed into a muted palette of browns, greys, and olives the moment the fantasy is interrupted.
Shahane is an award-winning actress known for her work in Hindi and Marathi films, along with several television productions.
The film will be introduced by the filmmaker and key collaborators.
Entry is free, and on a first-come, first-served basis. Latecomers will not be admitted.
