This statement is issued by the Trans Film Workers Network : a collective of trans and gender-diverse persons working across film and cinema in India : coming together in collective resistance to oppose the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026. At a time when trans rights must be strengthened, this Amendment seeks to roll them back. By undermining the right to self-identification, introducing exclusionary provisions, and enabling increased surveillance and control over our identities, it deepens gatekeeping and reinforces state authority over our lives. As trans persons within the film industry, we exist within an already exclusionary ecosystem : one where access to authorship, resources, and representation remains limited. This Bill further intensifies those conditions by legitimizing systems that question our identities, our work, and our presence. Through this statement, we are building a collective voice from within the film ecosystem : one that asserts our right to dignity, autonomy, and self-determination. Over 100,000 emails were sent to the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The numbers tell a clear story: Both Allies and members of the Trans and Queer community across the country REJECT this bill. But what do the citizens do when the government refuses to hear them? We do not stop trying. We keep going. We get louder and louder each time. Head to the link in our bio to appeal the President to stop this bill from becoming an act. The Trans Bill 2026 was hurriedly passed through the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha without any discussion with our community. We made our dissent loud and clear twice by sending over 80,000 emails within a week and they chose to pass it anyway. This time, we are emailing the President herself. We have updated the website in our bio accordingly. We urge you to send the email and share it as far and wide as possible! Not only to exercise your right but to give proof of our rejection. So that the proof can become public memory for our cultural resistance, which courts will see, people will read about it, artists will create art! Let’s make our dissent louder and clearer.🏳️‍⚧️✊🏽 #NoGoingBack #Dissent #BillTohKacchaHaiJi #TransRightsAreHumanRights RejectTransBill2026 Design: @samyuways @delicatefuckingflowers

No going back. Today’s Supreme Court hearing on the Transgender Persons Amendment is about more than a law — it’s about whether trans people in India keep the right to self-identify with dignity, safety, and legal recognition. When the State tries to control identity, everyone loses. Stand with trans communities. Share this. Speak up. Refuse any rollback of rights. #NoGoingBack #TransRightsAreHumanRights #ProtectTransLives

Life has truly come a full circle. From being anxious and disassociated from my identity especially on 14th April, to years later presenting my film at an Anti-caste conference on the same day, it has been a journey of learning, unlearning and collectively growing. 💙 Thank you @thebluedawnofficial @anticastecat for letting me share a piece of my heart. Thank you to everyone who sat back and watched this labour of love. I leave Bangalore with all your anecdotes and love. Video courtesy: @tanay.o

We had the honour to present Tara at the first edition of Building Begumpura - A conference on anti-caste Mental Health Practices. A history in the making, to be amongst some of the most influential Dalit, trans, adivasi & feminist activists was an absolute honour. Our director, Ashutosh S. Shankar, co-writers Achintya & Sakshi Wankhede represented the film at the two day conference. Thank you @thebluedawnofficial @anticastecat for this opportunity and thank you for creating a space of love and solidarity. Jai bhim 💙

I was part of a podcast panel produced by @zen.entertainment_official & @chini_kum_hai on ideas and discussion of representation in Indian cinema across caste, gender and identities in a nuanced way - I was joined by @raodyness @deepa.pawar16 @vanitakharat19 - the podcast will be releasing soon on Zen’s youtube channel & on instagram. I am trying to get used to the idea of speaking publicly and becoming vulnerable with ideas I have. Grateful to @chini_kum_hai @ashwika_37 for this beautiful convening.
