సెలవు Registering life as a protest. *This piece was originally published in @kadakcollective 's #BystanderAnthology. I don't need words of sympathy or tears of pity I'm not a victim, I'm an immortal I am the fluttering flag of defiance Don't shed tears for me If you can Bury me in the middle of the city I'll bloom as the bamboo grove that sings the melody of life - Kalekuri Prasad

International Worker's Day. Hope we get to pause, and rethink who actually built this country brick by brick that we are told to be so proud of. And what is happening to them on daily basis. My mother, a domestic worker and a tailor. And women in the family, who worked as farm labourers. I see them everyday thinking why do they have to go through such labour, at the cost of their lives and safety? How come a mere thing like Survival became the central thing to our identities? An identity I used to be ashamed of whenever someone asked me what does your parents do and hide from the questions. I used to wish for parents who are teachers, doctors, lawyers like that of my friends' . But now, I know the value of labour that the working class puts in as we type our Instagram posts, wish them on social media where they are not part of, make posters for clicks. How will this change their life? Let's think about the shallowness of this capitalist platform that we so dearly engage with. Awareness? For whom? Posters? For whom? Our families are still to this very second are fighting for minimum wages, dignity, and a respectful life out of victimhood that has been forced upon them. Working class is not your internship or a thesis or your art project to look "into". Real people, real life for survival. I get so angry when I see kids from middle class, and above wishing May Day on this bloody app! Who TF are you wishing?!!! You're going to go bargain for 10/- with your vegetable vendor tomorrow while buying 2000/- cotton shirt from HM/Zara without question. I'm pretty sure most people here haven't even thought of giving an off to their domestic workers today 🤡 Only legit workers'Day' wishes are when we introspect and join the fight of workers' in ways accessible to us. And especially if we are talking about anti-caste Ambedkarite movement, a conversation on caste is not possible without looking at how Class impacts the caste marginalisation and vice versa. - From a very proud daughter of working class families who can now speak in English, travel in aeroplane, and write about our communities. Jai bhim! We are back again with the third edition of our most dearest initiative, In-person Diploma in Anti-Caste Mental Health Practices, 2026! If there's one thing we have learnt, it is that our mothers and grandmothers have been practising a life that is less ordinary and more revolutionary - from frying fish with a window open to making sure they register cooking food as a practise of love. Come join us in this journey of learning their ways of registering life in itself as a protest, as the poet Kalekuri wrote. @thebluedawnofficial X @npicollective Application link in bio! Application deadline: 15 May 2026! Venue: In-person, Bengaluru For any questions, write to us at [email protected]! Cover designed by our genius @artwhoring ✨ #mentalhealth

Mainstream mental health frameworks were not built with caste in mind. The Blue Dawn is trying to change that. In this piece for IDR, Divya Kandukuri, founder of The Blue Dawn, writes about what it means to politicise mental health, and why doing so is not a departure from good practice, but essential to it. 🔗 Link in bio. 📅 Want to learn more? Building Begumpura, a conference on anti-caste mental health practices, is happening on 14–15 April. Check the article for details. @anticastecat @thebluedawnofficial *This is the last article in a 7-part series supported by The Wellbeing Project (@thewellbeingp ). TWP's three-year initiative is supported by the Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiative and EdelGive Foundation. The Blue Dawn and the National Federation of Dalit Women (NFDW) are delighted to invite you all for India’s first national conference on mental health through an explicit anti-caste, Ambedkarite, and social justice lens! The Conference is envisioned as a space of collective strength and joy that honours the Ambedkarite feminist movement, which has been building a city of Begumpura, for us to experience a world free of prejudices. We invite you all, to join us for these two-days of celebration marking Phule-Ambedkar Jayanthi. Over two days, practitioners, activists, social workers, artists, performers, scholars, and researchers will be coming together to critically reframe mental health from lived realities of caste, gender, labour, and exclusion. The conference seeks to reclaim mental health as a question of dignity, justice, and collective care. The programme will include art exhibitions by Ambedkarite artists, film screenings, panel discussions, music and performances, and cultural–academic engagements rooted in the tradition of Ambedkarite jalsas. A central moment of the conference will be the felicitation of 30 women leaders and institutions from the anti-caste movement, marking 30 years of the National Federation of Dalit Women (NFDW). These women and institutions represent decades of courage, organising, and transformative leadership that have shaped the Dalit struggles in India and beyond. Together, these spaces will honour our histories, our resistance, and the leaders who continue to guide our movements. Come, Join us 🌸 Save The Date! 14-15 April! Bengaluru, @sabhablr Poster art: @artwhoring 💫 More information on Programme, Registrations, Guests coming soon! Stay tuned!

What is that special quality within women’s friendships? Perhaps the resistance, the mischief, the love, the collectivizing power of women. Perhaps all of it. Thirteen of us gathered on a beautiful day in Bengaluru where @seeking_hope.magic and @anticastecat rooted us in narrative and feminist practices to take us through some ways to answer this question. They started with Savitribai Phule and her friendships, the friendships that they saw their mother’s holding and asked us throughout the day to describe what our friendships means for us in our lives. At the end of the day we kept tossing a phrase borrowed from Sneha’s mom’s friend group - the Naughty Naris - friends are those that “make your mind fresh”. Some little snippets from our day of storytelling, sharing, making, drawing, laughing and rejoicing women and our friendships. #friendship #friends #savitribaiphule
