7597. “I grew up listening to A Prairie Home Companion.”
-
Throughout her San Angelo, TX upbringing Emily Joynton leaned into being different. She’d gone through the gifted program at school and cared more about violin and choir than sports, so she knew she wanted to move away for college.
-
Inspired by the radio program she listened to as a kid (which broadcasted from St. Paul, MN) as well as her dad’s childhood experience in Norway, she studied Art at Minnesota’s
@stolafcollege .
-
Emily then stayed up north for a year and spent 4 years in Miami before getting her master’s at
@marylandinstitutecollegeofart . And during that time, she attended an illustration conference in Austin where, through
@ftlonesome , she became exposed to chainstitching!
-
Despite moving up to Philly in 2017 and working as an illustrator, Emily always promised herself that she’d get a chainstitching machine if the opportunity presented itself. So when, towards the end of Covid, she met a girl who was selling hers, she jumped on the opportunity. And after losing her job, Emily began embroidering full-time!
-
Now, through creating custom pieces at her
@buildingbok studio and doing live chainstitching at events, she’s growing
@loop.306 - all while continuing her life theme of taking the road less traveled! So nice to meet you,
@loop.360 !
