LOM is an experimental music label and instrument maker focused on microphone development, with a cultural space based in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. In recent years, Gruska has also been engaged in research on mycology and lichens, developing a practice at the intersection of art and science. 11:00 - 12:10 | Lecture 1 An introduction to LOM and its practice, focusing on Gruska’s work as a sound artist, field recordist, musician, and researcher working across mycology and lichenology. 13:30 - 14:40 | Lecture 2 Ultrasound Workshop This workshop explores the recording, processing, and listening of ultrasound, covering its principles, applications, and artistic uses. Participants will experiment with various ultrasonic microphones and sensors, and edit recorded data using software. Reservation required. Link in bio. @lasciencemusicale is a Paris-based field recordist and sound artist focusing on wildlife and urban biodiversity. He records birds and mammals in places like Père-Lachaise cemetery, the 20th arrondissement, and across Greater Paris, using microphones as creative tools to capture intimate behaviors, hidden soundscapes, and fine natural textures. “For me, the parabolic dish is the acoustic equivalent of a telephoto lens. It allows me to physically zoom in on the invisible and isolate micro details that are otherwise impossible to catch in a saturated environment like Paris. The Usi is a critical component of this setup. If the contact mic is the microscope accessing the macro world, the parabolic dish is the telephoto lens. Both allow me to isolate and magnify the invisible textures of reality. A Wallcreeper, descending from the high Alps to escape the harsh winter, this “butterfly bird” finds refuge and warmth on our urban cliffs, the ancient stones of the Belfort Citadel. To see it inspecting the fortress walls, accompanied by that ascending whistling song, one of my absolute favorites.”

• for their recent album "ebbing ice lines", @pablodiserens recorded glaciers, drifting ice, volcanoes, avian vocalizations, and anthropogenic hums in the Low Arctic using LOM’s Uši Pro, basicUcho, and Geofón microphones among their equipment. The album brings listeners into intimate proximity with the glaciers and geologies of Iceland, Finland, and Norway, shedding light on the minute sounds produced by these environments. "ebbing ice lines" was released by @forms.of.minutiae and @dinzuartefacts , and supported by @lom.label via the LOM+program. It is part of UNESCO & WMO’s Art for Glaciers in celebration of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation, and was also presented as an installation at @ogvjihlava (IGLOO sound gallery). The project was supported by LOM via the LOM+program 📸 by @clement.coudeyre while recording on the glacier Sólheimajökull ❄️
