We often see the final result, but rarely the process behind each work. This is the second phase of a project consisting of 10 tapestries, each measuring 5 x 15 feet, currently on view at the @mdckendall Gallery, curated by Rina Gitlin @rtcurated . It has taken a couple of years to complete these 15 foot tall tapestries, building the textile foundations from scratch using recycled rope and carefully selecting each image to inhabit this new imagined landscape. The full project consists of 20 tapestries in which the landscape is woven thread by thread as a construction of memory and territory. My deepest gratitude goes to every person and institution that has accompanied this process: the Miami Individual Artists Grant; the MDC Kendall Gallery; Rina Gitlin for her curatorial guidance; @jbasile40 and @juanjhenriquez for their support with the installation of the textile works; Theresa Goldstein and her team for logistics; Dainy Tapia of @art.seen.365 for her unconditional support; my children, Julián @synthwave64_ and Fausto, for always walking beside me on this journey; and Christiana @ine_kimba for the beautiful bouquet of flowers.❤️🙏🏻 I also share the official photographs taken by Francesco Casale @fcasale2018 , along with several process videos. Of course, timelapse has been my greatest ally in documenting so many uninterrupted hours of work. Photo creadits: 1-9 Francesco Casale, 10 Ramon Mizrahi

Today, June 14, is your birthday 88. ❤️🙏🏻
This year, I celebrate you with a heart full of gratitude. To see your memories, your chair, your patio, your tree, the roots embracing your house, the mango leaves now present at the Orlando Museum of Art @orlandomuseumofart as part of the Florida Prize feels like having you close once again. Happy birthday, my love, my Yiya.
I know you’re smiling from heaven, proud that your home is here. I’m sharing the poem I write that connects deeply with the work created in your honor born from love, memory, and longing. Now these pieces live where others can feel your presence too. Your chair is still there,
beneath the tree you planted,
the one that gave shade,
sweet mangoes, and now
embraces your house with its roots.
You don’t need to be here,
your soul walks through every room.
If the lights go out, you turn them on.
If the music stops,
the house keeps on sounding:
my grandfather’s radio,
the sewing machine,
the oxygen tank,
and the prayer that accompanied you before you left this plane.
Every corner remembers you,
every image celebrates you.
Your chair, like a throne,
connected to the tree,
still honors your presence. Thank you, @coralieccg and your team, for walking beside me through this beautiful journey and making this project possible.
Thank you, @mariancaro.foto , for your incredible eye and sensitivity—you helped bring emotion and memory to life. To my family and friends—Juan @juanjhenriquez , Julian @synthwave64_ , Fausto, Tia Nery @agnerisbermudez , Lisbeth @coqueta2 , Dainy @art.seen.365 , Lito, and Lita thank you for being with me and helping make this final chapter unforgettable. Bringing a piece of Cabimas here was the most incredible experience of the year. With all my love,

The Uncertain Future of Absence
Mixed Media and Video Installation
By Lisu Vega in collaboration with Carlos Pedreañez Part of Global Spotlight: Tactics for Remembering
MoCA Arlington, Virginia, U.S. @mocaarlington
Curated by Fabiola R. Delgado
September 27, 2025 – January 25, 2026 A video-textile sculptural installation woven from fragments of life, objects from the past, absent loved ones, and the roots of what was once ours. After nearly a year of work, I’m excited to share this project, curated by Fabiola R. Delgado @fabiola.rdelgado . We both come from Cabimas, and from our first virtual studio visit, a deep connection emerged rooted in shared memories. Collaborating with Carlos Pedreañez @ocovisual a longtime time creative partner. We explored themes of presence and absence, the voids left behind by displacement, and the quiet power of the objects we carry as anchors to memory. This work creates a space for intimate rituals, subtle gestures, and invisible threads that keep us connected. #contemporaryart #fiberartinstallation #textileart #mocaarlinghton #fabiolardelgado #lisuvega #ocovisual 📷 @fabiola.rdelgado ❤️

A mi suegra, mi hermana. #happymothersday

Opening Night Preview at Conductor Art Fair (Booth B1) @powerhouse_arts Gladwell Projects presents a focused two-artist dialogue between @purvairai and @lisuvega , bringing into conversation materially distinct practices grounded in land, labor, and intergenerational memory. Rai’s works embed agricultural knowledge through process-driven surfaces developed in collaboration with women artisans in Punjab, mapping cycles of cultivation, time, and endurance. In parallel, Vega’s handwoven textiles and photographic transfers trace memory through acts of translation, drawing from images taken by the artist. Conceived as both a formal dialogue and a preview, the presentation introduces the artists’ forthcoming solo exhibitions at Gladwell Projects’ space at 130 Bay Street: Purvai Rai: Cartography of the Grounded Sky Lisu Vega: Las raíces hablan…..El recuerdo susurra, opening May 9 – June 14, 2026. Visit us at Booth B1 Powerhouse Arts, Brooklyn April 29 – May 3 VIP Opening: April 29, 6–9 PM Public hours: April 30 – May 3, 11 AM – 7 PM Closing Day: 11 AM – 5 PM

Gladwell Projects is pleased to present a two-person booth featuring the work of Lisu Vega @lisuvega and Purvai Rai @purvairai at the inaugural edition of Conductor Art Fair, hosted at @powerhouse_arts , on view April 29 through May 3, 2026. This presentation introduces two distinct yet conceptually resonant practices ahead of the artists’ forthcoming solo exhibitions with @gladwellprojects at 130 Bay Street in Jersey City, opening Saturday, May 9, 6-8 pm. Across the booth, Vega and Rai engage in a shared inquiry into what remains. Their works converge around questions of residue, memory, and the conditions through which value is assigned and sustained. Lisu Vega’s work approaches memory as a living, embodied archive. Working across textile, photography, and installation, Vega constructs environments where memory is not fixed but continually reconstituted through material transformation. Rooted in her Venezuelan upbringing, her practice reflects the complexity of a familial lineage that spans Indigenous traditions on her mother’s side and Spanish heritage on her father’s. Her works hold these histories, forming a material amalgamation of cultural identity through fiber, image, and gesture. Recent solo exhibitions include Weaving Landscapes of Memory, Miami Dade College (2026); That Which Inhabits Me, The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery (2025). Vega was a recipient of the Ellies Creator Award (2026) and the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art (2025), at the Orlando Museum of Art. She is currently in the South Florida Cultural Consortium exhibition (2026), at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami. Her work has also been presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Arlington and the National Art Gallery of Venezuela, and is featured in Le Fil / Thread in Contemporary Art (Pyramid Publishing, France, 2025). Vega will have forthcoming institutional solo exhibitions at the Mint Museum, Charlotte and the Coral Springs Museum of Art in 2027. Honored and grateful to be part of this year’s at @soflculturalconsortium in the @mocanomi , curated by @kimjack and @laudsn . Being alongside all these artists I admire is truly an honor. Who would have thought that 23 years ago this was the first museum I visited in Miami, the one I dreamed for years of exhibiting my work in. Today that dream is a reality with my installation That Which Inhabits Me. Thank you to @soflculturalconsortium , Amanda San Filippo, @miamidadearts , @artinpublicplacesmdc . Thank you so much to the incredible curators @kimjack and @laudsn and to @rozamatt and his team for all the support. ❤️🙏🏻 See you this Wednesday, April 15 at the opening. ✨ #soflculturalconsortium #mocanomi #fiberartist #lisuvega #textileinstallation #miamidadearts
