✨Art & Collaboration 2025 Cohort ✨
Today we introduce Julian, from the Visual Arts Department. 🎨
Here is his statement: As I stand on the edge of adulthood, my work sheds light on the delicate, often overlooked metamorphosis into adulthood, the subconscious grief of leaving behind past selves, and the introspection and catharsis that follows. The feeling of nostalgia fascinates me as not only something to be preserved or glorified, but as a fragment of being, a relic that shapes who people become, and why they become in the first place.
My practice explores many facets, namely the relationship between past and present, self image and identity, and turning the mundane into totems of memory, treating nostalgia not just as sentimentality but as confrontation, catharsis, and something both deeply personal and hauntingly universal. This is less about stopping time than recognizing where we come from and appreciating how those moments, good and bad, have made us whole, and laid the groundwork for what’s to come. In practice, this often means diving headfirst into whichever material serves narrative best, and allows me to portray emotion, warmth and sincerity in ways not beholden to a single medium of choice.
My work exists as a space of discovery, and a dialogue between past, present and future, where memory becomes material, subject and afterburn.
