“Waves of Time” references the prehistoric “Lion-Human” sculpture, a part-human part-lion therianthropic figure carved in mammoth tusk around 40,000 years ago. Welly Fletcher poetically recreates this idea using their own body as the subject, one which has been transformed into a tiny, hybrid or “co-species”, bronze figurine placed within an undulating wooden landscape. Like the original “Lion-Human”, the figure is trapped in a state of either falling backward or in the process of leaning forward, a melding of human-animal, conscious/subconscious, a frozen moment attempting progression, while questioning our connection to the wider world and shared history. My first showing of work ever is still up for the rest of the month @sidetrackbrewing ! If you haven’t checked it out yet drop by and give it a gander. It’s a brewery so you know, the lighting not always great, but I can’t afford museum glass anyways, so at the end of the day it’s at least a vibe and there are always some nice folks to share it with there. If you’re cruising around for the prints art crawl today and hitting up the different locations I hope to run into you. ✨Trio v2 Artist Highlight: @juliegreenfineart 🏜️ 🎨About her Practice: Julie Green creates abstract collages and relief works that reimagine the landscapes of the American Southwest as explorations of color, line, and form. Her gouache paper collages from the Landscapes of the Imagination series distill the grandeur of sites such as Zion National Park and the Zuni Mountain Range into flat planes of color and geometric compositions, emphasizing the relationship between recognizable natural formations and abstraction.
