Spoke at @gamesweekafrica about outsourcing yourself successfully on the international stage. It’s been such a pleasure to finally get involved in the local industry.
In 2019, we graduated from a sound design class of just four students.
So, when @nickmatthewssound asked if he could bring the next generation of aspiring audio pros to the studio, I expected a similar small group.
Turns out, I was wrong.
13 students ended up tagging the name board. And for a while, they joined us to chat about game sound design.
What a great sign for the future of audio!

Hey everyone. We've been quiet for a long time so while it may seem like we've evaporated into dust, rest assured that we're still making waves out there.🔊🌊
It has been such a busy year and a half. We can't express how great it feels to be involved with all these projects and amazing people.
To give you a little peak, here's a video game sound and music bundle that features our sound effects. It has been a pleasure to work with the other sound designers and musicians at @ovanisound to make this happen.
It raises tonnes of money for charity and you can check it out too on @humblebundle . We'd love to hear what you think!
There are great things coming in the future and we hope to share it all with you. Thanks to our friends and family that have been so supportive. ❤️🔥

The sounds aren't always what you expect...
.
You voted, so we're doing a sound redesign for Sons of The fores🎄.
Here's a sneak peak of some sounds before we add music. The bats have insect sounds layered in so that they sound more creepy 🐞. The taser is made from a spinning revolver chamber because of how powerful it makes the weapon feel.

In March we collaborated with @_inekt and explored the rooftops of Cape Town to find the perfect spot for capturing the city. We're excited to use these recordings in our music and films because using your own sound makes the project feel more intimate. You may not notice it but using true South African sounds makes a film feel like home.

On the 24th of January, we created a #poll and asked all of you: "Which game trailer would you like to see us do #sound #redesign for?"
The #engagement was amazing to see and the #votes were super close, but the decision finally came down to Dead Island 1.
#comment (down below) if there is another #game #trailer that you would like to see us do a sound re-design for in the future.
SOUND DESIGN INSPIRATION: CHAOS WALKING
not a critique
The thoughts of men are visible and audible to everyone because of the atmosphere on their new planet. Their thoughts are called "noise".
This is an exciting concept for any sound designer. It gets you thinking... What should thoughts sound like? It took the sound team 2 years to answer this question.
In the end, the solution sacrificed some coolness for clarity. The "noise" scatters a specific word or phrase around the final sentence. The result isn't too flashy and gets the point across clearly. The designers used performances from multiple takes and creative design to fabricate a character's "noise" .
"Noise" also changes depending on the character, context and emotion to elaborate on the narrative, creating a powerful mechanism for connecting with the audience.
That's what strikes us about this film. Sound should be a narrative element that communicates emotion and story. It's just a matter of collaboration and creativity.
