The book was first published in the year 1900 and covers the cultural history of medicine in Germany, explaining how people healed, who performed the healing, and how those practices evolved from myth, religion, and tradition into more formal medical systems. The book gets strange at times tho; some passages describe how a doctor might prescribe herbs, prayer, and bloodletting all in the same breath.
