In honor of Black Maternity Week, I made this post after attending Movies and Movements on Motherhood hosted by AMC x @levelforward .
Thank you to @midorablenyc for inviting me!!
The conversation were inspired by the films screened earlier in the day, including You Are Not Alone by @glamruss —which highlights maternal mortality in the Bronx—and Aftershock, directed by @tonyalewislee , showing the lives and families impacted after preventable maternal deaths.
To all the mothers, especially black moms: your voice matters. Trust it, and never hesitate to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
And you don’t have to be pregnant nor expecting to show care, advocacy, and support. It takes a community to protect and uplift maternal health.
Join us for "Building Maternal Futures," a celebration of reproductive justice and motherhood with law professor and author Khiara M. Bridges, doctor and author Mary Fariba Afsari, and Pregnancy Justice President Lourdes A. Rivera.
