Elegance. Tragedy. History. On this day, Titanic Remembrance Day, we honor the victims and survivors of the R.M.S. Titanic disaster on April 15th, 1912. Last Friday, April 10th, Lynnewood Hall opened its doors once again and cherished their memory with the inaugural “Echoes of the Titanic” event. It was an honor to share our story with the incredible historians, authors, preservationists, and enthusiasts, alongside the ghosts of the Gilded Age masterpiece Lynnewood Hall. Join us on our journey! Widener. Carter. Thayer. Titanic. Their story is on the horizon. 🚢 Video credit: @jonathanawallace @zolynnie #titanic #theatre #lynnewoodhall #gildedage #gildedagemansions

@maritrimusic Some people change your life with one simple word: yes. For me, that person was Maritri Garrett. Back in 2015 I went back to ABC News to help launch a new streaming project. In 2016 my boss asked the team for ideas, and I pitched a scrappy little music show called Live From the Couch. The funny thing is… we never actually found a couch. But the show went on to feature artists like The Revivalists, Robert Randolph, AJR, Billy Ray Cyrus and a lot of other incredible musicians. And none of that happens if one of my very first New York friends — Maritri — and her band The Soulfolk Experience don’t say yes to being our very first musical guests. That performance became the link I sent to publicists when I was trying to convince other artists to take a chance on this little show we were building. Doors opened because Maritri said yes. But the truth is our story started even earlier. None of this happens if my homegirl from Minnesota doesn’t move to New York, become my roommate, and introduce me to a young stage manager from Bring in ’da Noise, Bring in ’da Funk. He convinced me to help produce a show called UrbanErotika. And of course… Maritri ended up performing in that too. Maritri always saw me as a musician first. One of my favorite memories will always be getting to perform with her once — keeping my clarinet chops alive for a moment on her stage. We had a time, y’all. A real New York kind of time. Rest easy, Maritri. Soar with the angels. And thank you for the music. We’ll keep playing it. All because she said yes.
