…An Editorial Test Shoot With
@amaka_nwonye // Dec, 2025
This Editorial test shoot was a collaboration with Amaka and a few other creatives, and from the start, we already had a clear vision for the first look.
The plan was to build that first look in two variations:
– A close-up headshot with the wig in motion, using a fan to give it that soft, floating effect.
– And a second variation showing the full outfit, still styled with the wig to complete the look.
We were able to execute the first variation, but when it was time to move into the second one, we realized a key accessory needed to properly style the wig (something like a scarf to shape it the way we envisioned) wasn’t available. At that point, it was clear that the full look wasn’t going to come out the way we planned.
Instead of trying to force it, we paused and rethought the direction completely.
We already had another concept lined up involving a hairstylist working on her natural hair, so I suggested we lean into that instead — straighten the hair and build a clean, sharp look around it. I could already see it in my head, and even though there was a bit of hesitation at first, I knew it would work.
Once we explained it to the hairstylist, she immediately understood the direction, and as soon as she started working on the hair, everything just clicked. The look came together effortlessly, and the result was even better than what we initially imagined.
That’s honestly one of the best parts of creating for me — being able to adapt in the moment, trust your vision, and still deliver something solid.
Really enjoyed working with everyone on this. Grateful for the collaboration.
