Last Day! This Sunday Exhibition: August 21.3 – 22.3.2026 from 2 to 6 p.m. @conventartspaceghent Tennisbaanstraat 74, Ghent Sculptures by A. Grootveld, Curated by J. Engels & M. Grootveld Two-day exhibition: 21 - 22 March Exhibition opening hours: Saturday and Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. The exhibition is organised on the occasion of the publication August, published by Lemon Press in 2025. Lemon Press is a publishing house founded by Jantje Engels, Andreas Depauw and Marius Grootveld. What if architecture could be discovered rather than designed? This exhibition documents August Grootveld’s ad-hoc search for structure; a daily, intuitive process guided by the act of making. The need to make a gate, something to pass through; a platform, something to climb. The method is just as direct: stacking bricks without a plan, finding what works moment by moment. If a structure falls, it’s broken. Tomorrow, something new begins. Here, construction is a ritual freed from formal intent or convention. The only rules are the physical limitations of the materials and the unwavering commitment to start anew. The forms that emerge are not born from a preconceived vision but from unconscious choices, a spontaneous dialogue between hand and material that intuitively seeks balance, enclosure, or height. This search might yield a large window to look through, high up, not because it was designed, but because it was found. It is both a search for control and a testament to what is possible when we simply go without. The resulting structures are the unmediated artefacts of this continuous exploration. They are not finished products but fleeting monuments to a daily pursuit of possibility. This is an architecture found through doing, a practice where the act of stacking one brick upon another is not a means to an end, but the entire point. It is a testament to what is possible when the builder’s ego is set aside in favor of play and repetition, an architecture that simply becomes. @conventartspaceghent @jantjeengels @andreas_depauw @mariusgrootveld @veldwerk @lemonpress

It is both a search for control and a testament to what is possible when we simply go without. CONSTRUCTION OF INCIDENT How do we construct an architecture that is informal, an architecture that exists outside of ourselves? This publication reinterprets industrial structures, typically shaped by practical needs rather than aesthetic considerations, by playfully translating their utilitarian forms into the visual language of historical architectural styles, resulting in structures that emerge from the interplay between two distinct elements: the causal logic of the borrowed industrial structure and the language of the style that is applied to it. This approach creates an architecture that is both foreign and familiar, a product of a disciplined process rather than a free-form creative act. It is, in essence, an architecture constructed outside of the self, guided by a set of rules and constraints rather than by individual preference. New Book, Out Now: CONSTRUCTION OF INCIDENT Now available for order via our web store lemonpress.bigcartel.com: €24,50 The publications can be shipped or picked up in Aachen/Ghent. @lemonpress icw. @gebaeudelehre_rwth CONSTRUCTION OF INCIDENT How do we construct an architecture that is informal, an architecture that exists outside of ourselves? This publication, the output of a design research project with students from the RWTH Aachen Lehrstuhl für Gebäudelehre, explores this very question through a specific dogma. The project builds upon the causal nature of industrial structures. These are buildings often developed without any deliberate compositional intent; their form is purely dictated by the constraints of the industrial processes they house and the modularity of their building systems. They are functional, not artistic. The core of the research involves taking these same structures and reimagining them using historic architectural syntaxes. This process is treated like a game of translation, where the language of a classical or other historical style is applied to the raw, functional logic of the industrial form. The resulting structures are not born from the architect’s personal intent or vision. Instead, they emerge from the interplay between two distinct elements: the causal logic of the borrowed industrial structure and the language of the style that is applied to it. This approach creates an architecture that is both foreign and familiar, a product of a disciplined process rather than a free-form creative act. It is, in essence, an architecture constructed outside of the self, guided by a set of rules and constraints rather than by individual preference.
