Some ramp salt and ramp pesto presented in the newest additions to my kitchen cabinet. Ramps courtesy of the most wonderful (and ethical! No bulbs!) foragers @allifnn and @thewoollymammoth . Like many potters, I had filled my kitchen cabinet with different styles of plates and pots, especially as a teacher who has to demonstrate all kinds of throwing styles. When @patertots mentioned she may be in the market for new bowls, I went a little mad and made myself a new set so I could give her my old ones. A lovely excuse for a weekend locked in on throwing 18 pieces (plus one berry bowl). All made at @slo.slo.studio ♥️🏺

Join Kimbap Lab and Pearl River Mart for a Kimbap & Art Happy Hour to kick off AANHPI Heritage Month. For many Koreans, sharing kimbap with friends and family is a familiar memory. It’s one that Dan, Sarah, and Chef Wonil have carried into Kimbap Lab. That sense of community is why we’re bringing together some of our favorite artists to share their work alongside kimbap. Friday, May 1 5–7PM | Free to attend Pearl River Mart Foods, Chelsea Market (Basement Level) Featuring: Caitlin Lam (@caitshouse ) Ben Hon (@stuffbeneats ) Nancy Pappas (@nkpcreate ) Janet Lee (@attab.oy ) Lam Vo (@lammakes ) Carolyn Yoo (@carolynyoo ) Dan Ahn (@danahn17 ) Plus desserts by @theeggsuite . Art, kimbap, and desserts will be available for purchase. Kimbap Lab’s menu is gluten-free; offerings from other vendors may vary. Come by and find your masterpiece…on the wall or on your plate.

New tea cup making class at @slo.slo.studio ! We will be making little tea cups together while sipping on an assortment of great teas from @grandteaimports , a lovely tea shop in Chinatown (thanks so much to @welcome.to.chinatown for the recommendation!). The husband and wife team Zhong Ming Liu and Yi Ling were the kindest and pointed me towards their favorite teas. I’ve long been dissatisfied with how craft is often taught void of culture and how schools and universities can sometimes overemphasize mastering a skill and forget to bring in culture. This can sometimes lead to students feeling pressure to perform in class and to make as close to perfect of a piece as possible. Crafting, to me, is a visceral way of experiencing history and through imitation and play relive culture. I have been spending more and more time researching history and contemporary traditions around craft and am so glad I am getting to bring a little bit of Chinatown mom and pop culture to an educational setting. I’ll also be experimenting with peer learning exercises. The immensely talented @oluhandmade recently brought the term Ubuntu to my attention, which loosely translates to “I am because you are.” As I was doing more and more research into traditional crafting, I found out that most people learned by crafting in community. I’m hoping to find more ways for students, even beginners, to help and inspire each other. I’m so excited to be able to explore new approaches to teaching craft with the support of @wang_makes_pots and @xxtratra .

Fertility is a loaded issue that can bring just about any emotion, from joy and hope to anxiety and fear. This meetup is for those who want to contemplate or share their experiences with parenthood in a supportive setting. What’s behind the process of freezing your eggs? How much does IVF cost? What does it look like to raise kids in alternative family structures? Laura Kradas, a fertility strategist and advocate, and Lam Vo, an aspiring parent currently on their IVF journey, will be there to share their knowledge. While this event centers the needs of women and nonbinary folks of color, we encourage anyone who is curious or who wants to share their own experiences to show up. To stave off feelings of stress, we will be gathering and gabbing while arranging flowers. Shears, tape, flowers, and a handful of vases (made by @lammakes !) will be provided, though people are encouraged to bring their own vases. We will also have light refreshments. We will be at Another World (629 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216) on Friday March 13 from 6-8 pm! RSVP here to help us prepare the event: bit.ly/fertility-hang (link is also in bio)
