Two more Shabbat Zimra services to go at Kol Tzedek in 5786! Join us on March 20 (this Friday night!) and May 1 for gorgeous sounds and soulful prayers.
Led by the amazing Rachel Chang and Aly Halpert, Shabbat Zimra is an immersive musical journey through Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv, featuring instrumental musicians from our community– praying with their guitars, drums, horns, keys and beyond. ✨🎺🙏
Purim is a holiday of subversive joy in the face of a threatening world. Every year it calls us to turn things upside down, to imagine that transformation is possible, and to meet injustice with courage. Join us for a joyful, family-friendly Purim experience, including a full megillah reading, KT's amazing Simcha Band and Yiddish dance teacher Miryam Coppersmith, hamantaschen baking, games, singalongs and crafts. 🎉
And... drum roll please... in this year's shpil, get ready for JPop Haman Hunters! Unbeknownst to most of us, a battle has been raging since the beginning of time between the Hamans, who feed off the souls of humans through their demonic a capella group, and the Haman Hunters, who work tirelessly to defeat them – using the power of song and Jewish community to protect the cosmic super-sukkah! 🎤
This year we're communaly fulfilling the mitzvah of giving generously on Purim to those in need of direct support by donating to Juntos, a community-led, Latine, immigrant organization in South Philadelphia fighting for the human rights of workers, parents, youth, and immigrants. Please join us in supporting this vital work by making a donation: vamosjuntos.org/donate-to-juntos ❤️
Rabbi Ari Lev Fornari and Jon Argaman of @koltzedek in @jtanews with a clear message— Don’t comply! Synagogues must refuse DHS funding!
Traditional militarized “security” that many synagogues depend on has in fact never kept our communities safe. As Rabbi Ari Lev Fornari and Jon Argaman write— “there are opportunities for community safety that don’t require collaboration with the apparatus being used to terrorize and punish American cities.” Check out @communitysafetycampaign !

On a day of nationwide strike and resistance to ICE, we’re sharing a dvar Torah recently given by Rabbi Mónica Gomery at Kol Tzedek, and published in Lilith Magazine. @lilithmagazine@dancingmobot
Rabbi Mó reflects on the US invasion of Venezuela, her own family history, and what we can learn from Jewish texts and traditions about our relationship to empire and governing authorities. You can read the whole essay at the link in our bio.
“As the powers of this world tighten their grip, let us be wary of governments and draw on ol malchut shamayim in our prayer, in our activism, in our showing up for one another. These may seem like radical ideas, but they are ancient and deeply Jewish, embedded in the lived experiences and wisdom of our ancestors. May they be resources for us in the days to come, for survival and resistance.”
Join IfNotNow Philly, Prayers for Peace Alliance, and Kol Tzedek for a discussion with Kareem Jubran and Yuli Novak of B’Tselem, Israel’s leading human rights organization. This event will be at Kol Tzedek on Saturday, November 22nd from 7 to 9 pm.

“The entire forty years they were in the wilderness, Miriam’s well was with them.” (Taanit 9a)
⠀
This year’s High Holiday theme is Miriam’s Well: What Sustains Us in the Wilderness. For forty years, our ancestors wandered—and still, water flowed. Miriam’s well followed them. They sang to it, and it rose to meet them. A miracle, again and again.
⠀
As we enter 5786, we turn to Miriam’s wisdom—her songs, her courage, her endurance—to sustain us through whatever wilderness we face. Come sing, pray, and journey with us.

I’m so excited to join Kol Tzedek next week on Thursday, May 15, to talk about the role of Jewish communities in the fight against American fascism.
🔗Register at the zoom link in bio
May 15 is Nakba Day, and also the one year anniversary of my resignation from the Biden administration. A day that was chosen intentionally to highlight the connection of the Nakba with other catastrophes that Jewish communities have faced in the past specifically the show up and to emphasize that our role as Jews is to fight against oppression whenever and wherever we see it, especially Jewish supremacy.
Our Jewish institutions are more important than ever right now. We need Jewish institutions across the United States to stand up to the Trump administration and push back against the continued genocide of people in Gaza, and the deportations, cuts to education funding in the United States here in the name of Jewish safety, and the rising Christian nationalism that threatens every single one of us — especially Jewish communities.
Join us on Thursday to talk about how we can build power, what our specific role is as Jews right now, and how we can win a shared future for everyone
This Saturday, our constituent services team is headed to @koltzedek to offer help in accessing city services, connecting to supportive organizations, and making sure you have what you need!
Can’t wait to see you there! 💜✊🏾🧡
